There has been a discrepancy over time as to whether nursing is a profession or an occupation. Nursing is a profession because it needs vast and several levels of training, diverse skills and knowledge base (Torres, 2008).
There are several aspects that current and future nurses can put into consideration to enhance nursing stand as a profession such as creating conferences or seminars that bring the nurses together from different parts. The events are aimed at making the nurses interact, learn as well as be able to address the difficulties they face and ways to overcome them to improve the field of nursing.
The nurses can ensure the progress of nursing profession by ensuring their work conduct is perfect from the services they offer to patients to the behavior and activities at the health institutions such as punctuality, care, understanding among others. This will attract the attention of people and the government leading to awards and respect for the nursing field. Nurses can also follow the nursing ethics to the latter while offering help to patients giving out remarkable services appreciated by the public members (Wynd, 2003).

It is important for nursing to be acknowledged as a profession because through nursing the members of the society get the medical services that help them recover from illnesses or injury (Williams & Wilkins, 2015). Recognition will make more people pursue nursing thus, helping the sick and creating a stronger healthier nation. Nursing profession requires training, knowledge base and varying skills.
Nursing as an academic discipline is important as it imparts both the basic and complex knowledge in learner making them competent and efficient in their nursing activities. Nursing as an academic discipline requires study of sciences which include physics, biology, chemistry and sociology.
Nursing as science is crucial as it involves solving problems on illnesses and injuries thus, improving the health of the members of the society. Nursing science entails natural sciences, pure sciences, social sciences and applied sciences. Improtance of nursing as a science is because it briges information and care acquired from science to patients making the get better through the nurses (Barret, 2002).
