Mind, Soul and Body
It is evident that there is a very close relationship between the mind and body. A person who cannot control his or her body with what they think or the thinking with the body is said to mentally impaired. The mind deals with the mental process, thought and consciousness whereas the body is about the physical aspects of the brain (McLeod 1). That simple explanation shows that there is a close relationship between the two. The question this paper tends to answer is the close connection between the two but the fate of the mind after death. According to Oxford Dictionary 8th Edition, death is the permanent ending of a vital process in a cell or tissue. With this explanation, many questions arise creating many answers to all the issues asked. Do dead people think? Do they have a conscience? If not what happens to consciousness when people die? Where does the mind go after a person dies? This paper will seek to answer all these questions and come up with a better thinking of it.
Osho introduces a different and complicated explanation by saying that we are neither the body nor the mind, but just a witnessing consciousness. He argues out his idea by saying all things experienced cannot be explained and that not all explainable things can be experienced. Scientists in the United States, on the other hand, are trying to come up with scientific explanations. They have 'clinical killed' some people, and they get to study their 'dead' brain. All these people say that they can see what is happening to them after that point they flat line. Scientists, however, are trying to determine whether these are real experiences or hallucinations. They do this by close-referencing the patient's experience with that of the nurses and doctors present. According to the scientists carrying out this research say that the record of the groups is surprisingly accurate. Scientists, therefore, conclude that consciousness continues even when the brain is dead or not functioning (Life Trainings 1). This research is, however, controversial since the researcher cannot be able to different between the mind and brain since they have above 99% similarity. Death does not exist, and it is just an illusion in the minds of people. It only exists because people tend to identify themselves with their body (Lanza). According to Lanza, mind exists outside the constraints of time and space.
Religious experts, however, agree with the scientists to a certain extent. They both agree that there is life after death. For the religious case, there exists a soul and a mind. The mind controls the normal livelihood and behavior of a person, and the soul is the spiritual aspect of human beings. To them, the soul is what is infinite. They explain that when man was created, God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. It is what is referred to as the soul. For Christians and Muslims, they believe that when a righteous person dies, he or she goes to heaven. It is assumed that they refer to the soul since the body remains on earth. As such, it is prudent to say that the mind and the soul are infinite since the scientist believe it if the mind that transits (The Truth Contest).
Respond:
There is a connection between the mind and the body. The connection is eminent as shown above. The argument that the mind does not the body is wrong. The body is needed by the mind to manipulate the physical aspects surrounding it for finite survival. For infinite survival, the mind and soul do not require the body. It is because there is no physical manipulation required. The body's work is only needed in a place where there are other physical beings. According to religious experts, were cannot exist without the body in the current world. The only place we can exist without the body and even live better is when it is in a spiritual world. For scientists, any world that only aspect is useable is the best. The mind and the body are different entities. It is according to the religious experts. It is well illustrated in the above explanations. For scientists, there nothing like a soul. They only believe in a mind which is responsible for the behavior and actions of human beings. It is, therefore, prudent to conclude that the mind and soul are two different entities and that they should be treated separately despite people's different opinions. Lastly, the mind and the soul are infinite. The body is the only finite aspect in human beings (Life trainings, 1).
