Personal Statement
I am NAME SURNAME from PRESENT CITY, PRESENT COUNTRY. My intended major for NAME OF PROGRAM in NAME OF COLLEGE will be mathematics.
I have always been motivated to good education as I belong to a well- educated family. During my study in high school I was more interested in pure science i.e. math, physics, and chemistry. But my favorite subject in schools days was mathematics and I used to like to solve complex and challenging problems in mathematics and puzzles. Inclination to this subject was originated when I was kid and I used to be guided by my grandfather who was a math professor. I have learnt a lot from him. He used to teach me from the basic law or theory of mathematics to harder problems in mathematics and I used to enjoy this subject.
Since my childhood I used to consult various book for mathematics to solve problems of all kinds of difficulty level, to learn various math theories, to solve math puzzle. I really enjoy the complexity of a particular math problem as this helps me to delve into this subject as well as to think more analytically which, as a result, has increased my analytical power to solve a particular problem. At the same time I also enjoy the sense of accomplishment after solving problems which helps me to grow my confidence level to face any kind of problem or challenge in this subject.
During high school, I also attended math club. The instructor in the club not only guided me to explore deeper in math, but also encouraged me to attend math contests. I have expertise in theory proving, algebra, and graphics. I like these areas because it necessitates good logic but not massive calculation to solve the problems in these fields.
Now, I have got a scope to pursue my higher study with my favorite subject, mathematics. To keep in touch with mathematics during my college life and to hone my skill in mathematics I give tuition in mathematics. I am giving tuition to students of 1-8th grade in this semester of my college and in next semester I stand a chance to become a tutor in Math lab in my school. During giving tuition I have felt that my approach to giving tuition can be better if I pursue my higher study in mathematics. Not only that, I have aspiration to pursue higher study to know widespread application of mathematics and to develop mathematical model to solve complex problems. Strong urge to gain in-depth knowledge in mathematics coupled with getting an opportunity to maintain my family tradition to have expertise in this subject have incited me to choose mathematics as my future major and to pursue higher study from your esteemed institution in mathematics. I would like to continue learning math and researching math in the future. I would also like to carry on research unknown areas of mathematics and unravel new facts in this subject.
Prompt2
Though I used to be an average student in my school days; my aptitude, logical reasoning skill and knowledge in mathematics distinguished me from the rest of the students in my class in the school. I developed skill to solve difficult problem requiring logical reasoning and aptitude. Possessing a challenging nature I used to participate many competitions like math quiz, math contest etc where I got opportunities to show my mathematical skill, aptitude and reasoning ability. By nature I am quick learner, goal oriented as well as I have aptitude to perceive any problem and to delve into that problem to find intelligible and feasible solution. Because of this nature, I have gained lots of responsibility as well as reputation from my student. I have been giving tuition for long time and I have developed a skill to read my student’s mind as well as to prepare them to tackle any problem.
I believe that constant study or doing mathematics can not help any person brilliant. For this reason, apart from study I am interested in sports. I was in school basketball team and school ping pong team during high school. I had represented school to play in contest, but unfortunately, I didn’t win. Being a sportsperson I do have sportsman’s spirit and possess certain traits like punctuality, discipline etc. I enjoy my victory and I learn from my failure. I think that my involvement in sports has helped me to develop my personality.
During college, I volunteers in AGS i.e. Alpha Gamma Sigma group. This group organizes volunteers doing some work to improve the neighborhood. This group mainly engages various kinds of social works like picking up trash, weeding and visiting retirement house. Reason behind joining this was my sense of responsibility for my society where I live and to persuade other to contribute to noble work for society. During my work exposure I have developed my communication skill, leadership skill etc. I have also got an opportunity to come closer to various minds in our neighborhood which was unknown to me prior to joining the group. I have also started volunteering work in the office of the US congressman, Eric Swalwell.
If I have to tell about my qualities in which I have pride should be my aptitude, my personality and my social responsibility. With gaining knowledge I also give equal importance to have moral values and execute these values in my daily life. To me personal development should not be the only objective of our life, as I believe that there is no value of having knowledge until we use it for social development and for the boon of our locality and our neighborhood from where we belong. Main objectives of my future career is not only to gain knowledge about mathematic and to reach my goal, but I would also like to share my knowledge as well as moral values among my students so that the earned knowledge can be infiltrated through the various layers of our society.
Prompt3
At last I would like to share few of my qualifications and my qualities which should help the admission committee to judge my skill and select me among other candidates who are also looking for admission in your esteemed institution.
I think that I have better logical reasoning skill, analytical skill than other students in mathematics. As evidence, I can mention about one math contest when I was senior in high school. The math contest was a county level math contest. Each school had sent one student as the school’s representative to attend that contest and I was selected to represent my school. There were three stages. At first stage all candidates took paper exam and the judge picked top thirty students to attend the second level which was interview. Each candidate got ten minutes to solve two questions. Judges graded each candidate and selected top ten candidates to enter the final stage which was also interview. At that stage each candidate had twenty minutes to solve one question which was graduate level math and impossible for high school students to solve. The judges just wanted to see how good the candidate’s logic was and selected the top five students. I stood second in that contest.
I believe that there is no age as well as no limit of learning. A person can develop himself whenever he wants. I also belief my sincerity, perseverance, hard working, my work experience, and my benevolent qualities shall distinguish me from the other student who are looking for admission.
Thanks you very much for your patience, time and consideration.
