My country has recently become independent and despite its fast development and constant improvements, the country still lacks the fresh blood educated according to the Western democratic values that are still to be implemented in its legislation. To gradually substitute the Soviet past with the democratic present, our youth needs to study in the countries that are the cradles of the democracy.
For this reason, four years ago I took the Foundation course at HEFP, holding the conditional offer from the University of Warwick to study business law. Due to personal circumstances I was forced to continue my education in Kazakhstan, simultaneously managing my family business. Five generations of my family were engaged in legal and political sphere, their experience gave rise to my interest in law and the subsequent desire to become a legally educated politician, who will make useful contributions to my motherland’s prosperity and further democratic development.
Today, I have great job opportunities in the City Administration Office and in the Prosecutor’s Office. However, I am willing to decline both of them due to my conviction that only becoming a postgraduate specialist, especially the one holding the LLM degree of the top British university, I will be able to open the door for effective career building. Moreover, Kazakhstan needs new specialists with a British graduate degree, who will help boost the country’s economic, socio-political and cultural welfare. Given my high university activity and one and a half year of living in the United Kingdom, which both helped shape me into a mature, independent and highly responsible person, I am currently ready to come back to Great Britain to complete my legal education in pursuit of my long-term plan of becoming one of the strong legally educated future leaders of Kazakhstan.
While studying in the Kazakh National University, a leading national law university, I received an opportunity to join any of the law enforcement agencies in my country. I practiced in the police department, the anti-corruption agency that also fights with white collar crimes, the municipal court department and the prosecutor’s office. I decided to complete a 3-year military preparation program for public officers. My current primary goal is to finish my graduate degree and proceed to work as a prosecutor in Kazakhstan. This practice will give me a chance to start fulfilling my long-term plan. During the last 5 years I have been organizing many activities that are connected with business, finance, law, and event management and are described below. They gave me the opportunity to constantly make a thorough legal research, analyse and apply legal regulations in real life situations by everyday practice in my own business. One of the main points, which I understood through the process of opening and keeping my business afloat and flourishing, was that if a person wants to achieve a goal, he or she needs to throw himself/herself into a persistent hard work, until the desired result is achieved.
I am strongly convinced that my greatest abilities are independence, responsibility and self-confidence in pursuing my goals and implementing new ideas.
Everything started with me founding the leading Almaty youth social organization «IJ group», which specializes in conducting mass events and projects for young people, creating a common space for their interaction, with over 200-people membership. This experience gave me the possibility to understand how to manage people and guide employees, organize mass events, manage my way through the struggles with finding sponsors, solving conflicts with customers and dealing with different legal aspects; all this has driven me deeply into studying law, the commercial, contract and business law in particular. My intensive activity was noticed by the government and the City Administration Office and IJ group was officially registered as a public youth organization and was offered to have offices in 5 universities of Almaty. After that I have organized the charity concert for Almaty students, with the estimated attendance by 3000 people. The success of the event enabled me to join the Regional Department of Youth Politics of Kazakhstan. From this time all the events and projects held by my organization were supported by the Mayor of Almaty. Now I am publishing my own political journal for young generation called the Independent Judgement Magazine, the circulation is 20 000 copies and it is distributed in all universities and in some coffee houses. During 3 years of IJ Group’s existence, we have transferred nearly $60,000 for charity.
I am the founder of the unique ZHASTAR.PRO website that links all 46 universities of Almaty, the largest city of Kazakhstan. The estimated daily number of visitors will be 500.000 people. The website’s main goal is to unite the universities and half a million students of Almaty into a single network, the website being a combination of the social, educative, legal, and business assistance. The website provides the legal and financial aid to the students; it streams the latest news of the universities; students are able to share their talents and look for sponsorships and agents; students-founders of their own start-ups, are given the opportunity to look for sponsors and financial help from different sources; teachers/professors can share their academic thoughts and works and get feedback from the peers and students; students are able to find discounts, get engaged in the online trade and exchange, buy products with the logos of the universities in the online shop, purchase tickets for all current city events; the project also includes the first Kazakhstan dating website aimed solely at students. I obtained the required state approval for linking together the universities; meanwhile I have also successfully sought the governmental support to convince the universities participate in the project, which definitely created benefits to the whole academic community.
The creation of the website pushed me further to the next step in my career. I decided to open my own company, Steppe Riot LP, aimed at supporting the website and conducting workshops. In particular, I have organized a big business workshop with the participation of Allan Pease, a famous psychologist and master of body movements. The training was held in November in Almaty and so far it remains the most popular workshop that has ever taken place in Kazakhstan. Moreover, I organized more than 5 big music concerts on the municipal scale, the biggest one being the gig of an American famous band called the “FAR EAST MOVEMENT” held in Almaty. These accomplishments landed me the opportunity to participate in the Miss Kazakhstan beauty pageant as one of the main organizers. I have also founded a new catering system for the Almaty universities and opened my first coffee house in my own university, making sure it meets the legal standards. Another achievement was the creation of the Student Market, my next start-up that provided organic products at affordable prices at the first weekly fair in Almaty.
Another favourite activity that shaped me as versatile specialist was the one, where I joined forces with the Almaty city mayor. Together we decided to raise the level of cultural and patriotic education of the students through a range of events, including the gathering of several biggest flashmobs, producing a number of video clips for demonstration in the cinemas; one of our most successful achievements within the project was the completed sales of over 30,000 copies, 30 pounds/item, of the highly fashionable products decorated with the images of historical personalities, the years of their birth and death and their infamous quotes.
While actively diving in all the mentioned great experience, I faced the necessity to carefully study and implement the regulations from a huge range of laws regulating various activities that I either organized or took part in. The benefits that I was proud to receive were the new knowledge and skills, analytical and organizational ones. I learned to work in a team like never before, which helped me a lot during bringing my initiatives into life. Meanwhile, during the development of my own companies, I have made a number of mistakes, which after all helped me understand the real strength of a person, who knows common, civil and international law.
HOBBIES
My main hobby is the neuro-linguistic programming. To my mind, studying this approach might be beneficial for people, working in the sphere of law, as it helps analyse and better understand the real motives of people’s actions and has already proved to be useful at my work.
Another passion of mine is public speaking and debating; after graduating from high school, I was chosen to be a presenter of my country on IDEA debate forums held in Europe. During my university years I participated in the conferences on curbing the corruption activities in Kazakhstan and was one of the organizers of the international forum held at my university in May 2012, with the participation of the Nobel laureate John Forbes Nash. Also, it is important to mention that I was a member of a legal clinic in my university during my studies, which happened to be one of the greatest experiences in my entire life. Helping people solve their legal problems was very beneficial for understanding the small peculiarities and important aspects of my future work.
I am also highly interested in trading; thus I was working as a distance trader on London Stock exchange.
Keeping me in shape and staying fit is my daily routine since early childhood. The main proof is the master degree that I hold in swimming.
