Informative Speech
- Introduction
- Attention getter – Does time seem to run too fast for you? Yes, time is a scarce resource, and with all of the requirements that students have to meet in college, along with their other activities and responsibilities with their friends and families, the act of juggling all of these can lead to stress and to the neglect of one’s studies.
- Tie to the audience -- Are you one of those who have this problem? Do you find that the time never seems to be enough to do everything you need to?
- Credentials – Just like you, I am also a college student and like most of you, I also have some challenges with keeping up with my school requirements while still trying to maintain a school-life balance.
- Thesis/ Main Topic – However, it’s not entirely impossible for us to be able to organize our schedules so that we can accomplish everything that we need to. With time management skills, we will surely be able to get around college much more easily and stress-free.
- Preview of Points – In this regard, I will discuss with you some ways by which you can better manage your time and priorities. More specifically, I will discuss:
- How to use your time wisely
- How to prioritize your tasks
Body -- Point 1: How to use your time wisely
- Transition -- First, let me talk about how you can use your time wisely.
- Evidence – According to Meg Keeley (2011) of Bucks County Community College, you should clear your schedule and not overextend yourself. Recognize that your own obligations and your own well-being are just as important as those of others.
- Analysis – As such, avoid interruptions in your study schedules and set limits to the things that you do for others; otherwise, learn to reschedule your other obligations.
- Summary – Keep in mind that you can only do so much. In this regard, you should learn to focus on your studies and not feel guilty about not being able to accommodate others.
Body Point 2: How to prioritize your tasks
- Transition – Next, I’ll discuss how you can prioritize your schoolwork, especially if you have several that are lined up.
- Evidence – As an eHow Contributor (2013) suggested, try to complete your most difficult tasks first.
- Analysis – It is best to tackle the difficult assignments while your mind is still fresh and you still have plenty of energy (Study Guides and Strategies, 2013). This will allow you to work on these tasks more effectively and efficiently. Moreover, by completing the difficult tasks first, you are able to relieve the pressure around your remaining work.
- Summary – As such, learn to identify your strengths and weaknesses, as well as the difficulty levels of your various school requirements, so that you can prioritize them accordingly.
- Conclusion
- Transition – To conclude
- Restate your previous points – I have discussed that you can manage your time by using your time wisely, and by prioritizing your tasks
- Restate your thesis – Again, managing your time is not an impossible feat.
- Link back to your credentials -- Even I am still trying to hone my time management skills as I believe that these will help me not only in college but even in the other areas of my life.
- End with impact -- I then encourage you to continue developing these skills, so that you can make the most out of college, that is, learning while having fun!
