The video highlights the activities of the National Public Health Week with the overarching theme being the transformation of the systems in order to achieve a healthy nation. The American Public Health Association organized different themes for the various days of the week (American Public Health Association, 2014). The themes reflected the focus areas and the goals of the association towards the achievement of the Healthy Nation 2030 objectives. Even with the different focus areas, one aspect that transcended all the themes and focus areas was the aspect of sustainability in health care. One of the themes entailed promoting health from the beginning. This was through activities such as school nutrition programs and maternal health programs. This shows embedded sustainability because it ensures that the next generations are healthy in line with the objectives of the Healthy Nation 2030 (American Public Health Association, 2014).
As an administrator, the principles of prevention and preparedness are important in ensuring a healthy population. Different seasons come with different health hazards. This places a responsibility of health departments to be prepared (American Public Health Association, 2014). This theme was also discussed at length with disaster preparedness for the hurricane seasons emphasized because of the health challenges that it poses. The application of principles of sustainability requires the development of response plans and the capacity building of both the soft and hard skills in readiness.
It is noteworthy that these elements are not applied in isolation. Instead, the transformation of the system entails the implementation of the appropriate principles in all the focus areas so that a holistic transformation is achieved. For instance, when the ideals of prevention and wellness were highlighted as tenets in the progress towards the objectives of the Healthy Nation 2030, the tenet is seen as part of the whole (American Public Health Association, 2014). The transformation of the system is dependent on the efficient coordination of all the activities that pertain to the different focus areas.
