Conflict theories refer to views and perspectives that elaborate the inequalities that occur in a particular social group in matters related to political issues, social issues and also material. Moreover, when we talk of functionalism, this refers to theories that exist and tend to view the society as a very complicated system that composed of very distinct parts that collaborate to enhance the state of solidarity ("Part 3"). Having a look at the food industry in the USA, the conflict theory is quite revealing. The industry appears to have mimicked so many promotional links with industries that manufacture toys thus giving very sophisticated toys alongside meals that are meant for children thus can sell so much at discounts. On the contrary, the food industry involves a stream of functional arms. The advertising side is a factor the leads to the success of the sales made, and this affects the consumption patterns recorded in the industry.
Which conflict theory best describes the media in the USA
The USA media can best be described through Weber’s theory. Gatekeeping is a crucial aspect to understand when it comes to how information flow is controlled ("Openstax CNX"). This is what makes the media controllable. So much evolution has been experienced in the press, and that has resulted in diversity in society. The new media considers gatekeeping as a very fundamental norm. The media has led to an imbalance in the political state. Weber elaborates that individuals with so much money can run campaigns with their will, and capitalize on their public presence. The theorist suggests that the non-rich are barely heard when it comes to political issues.
Structural barriers that people Kozol speaks of in Fire in the Ashes face
Having been born in Boston, Jonathan Kozol, Rachel, and her Children lived under a shelter near the Martinique Hotel, which would rather be considered homeless. Later, they move on to a public housing apartment at the poorest district known as the South Bronx. They incur many problems especially in the search for employment and cases of poverty (Kozol p.19 -65). Moreover, the social issues also affect the youngsters, and they include murder, drugs, and even diseases. Though most of the boys could bear the situation, it was hard for girls such as Pineapple and her sisters. They find it even hard to after the deportation of their parents to Rico, and this acts as a clear demonstration of how bad social policy can be. There are many barriers that that are evident of this piece of literature such as poverty, drug usage, deportation of parents, cases of murder and even diseases.
What can we learn from prejudice across America? What skills do we gain too from the authors teachings?
