Education policy is one of the crucial principles that govern and enhances education systems. The goals of education policy include freedom, efficiency, as well as equity. Education policy has undergone tremendous changes (Rushefsky 311). Attending private elementary schools reveal various comparison issues with public schools. Student achievement is one of the factors that creates some difference between public school and private school. Students in private schools tend to have higher academic achievements compared to public schools. This is attributed to various components, which include smaller student enrollment, student-teacher ratio, as well as the percentage of minority students. Also, public elementary and private school provide a regulation exception and flexible curriculum.
There are various advantages of private schools. One of the strongest arguments is that private schools are more focused on achievement and efficiency of education. This is because one of the main focus of education is ensuring that students are streamlined towards education goals (Rushefsky 313). Also, efficiency is one of the goals of education policy. The private school ensures that students became high achievers. Private school is associated with enriched academic opportunities. The weakest one is the aspect teacher’s ratio and performance. This is because students in public school can equally perform like those in private schools.
Relying on private school to educate the children is not the best option. This is because private schools are less regulated by the government. Teachers in private schools are not expected to hold special education programs or degrees. Also, depending on private schools will paralyze operations in public schools.
The educational policy should focus on enacting voucher plan. This is because it extends the financial support to education providers. The voucher plan enables all parents to make a choice that aligns with their preferences (Rushefsky 335). Also, it enhances efficiency in both private and public school, which means that it streamlined toward education goals.
Parental choice is a good idea because it enhances competition among schools. The school will focus on providing the best education that will satisfy the parents. Also, monopoly power in public school will be eliminated (Rushefsky 335).
Charter school is not a good idea because it enhances racial or religious segregation. Parents who want to avoid racial integration will send their children to charter schools (Rushefsky 343). This means that the education system leads to discrimination.
6. There are some changes that I would like to see in public schools. One of the issues is to increase individualized attention and reduce class size. These changes ensure that the needs of each student are attended. Also, classroom technology should be increased and access to learning materials increased. Parents and community partners should be involved in decision-making. The state should not play a monopoly role in the management of public schools. The schools should demand higher standards that enable students to compete in the global arena.
These proposals can be achieved through various ways. One of the ways is by using technology in parental connections, administration, student assignments, and modernizing curriculum. Also, parents should be involved in schoolwork and welcome parents to participate actively in the classroom. Public school can create partnerships wit community organization. The partners can expose teachers and students to the real world. Public schools should also increase access to engineering, mathematics, science and technology. These subjects enhance the power of innovation among students. The education policy should always be restructured to meet the dynamic issues in the education sector. The set policies have to be streamlined to the environment of the child.
