The most challenging aspect of meeting the requirements of this essay was the fact that I had so many ideas that I lacked the right words to present. The essay is all about the personal experience I have had during the transition from the Chinese education system to the American system. Given that I am yet to learn all English vocabularies, some of the ideas I had were not well expressed.
During the revision of this essay, I first sat back and re-read the paper. This was to examine whether other readers could make sense of what I was trying to say. I also re-read the document to establish whether what I was communicating was correctly captured by the words I used. In the presentation, I not only talked about how English was applied in the classroom but also how is used the language in real life. This is why I gave examples such as when shopping or using the public transport system. I also saw it necessary to include the support system around me. This was made up of my host family, who were instrumental in helping me learn the language and culture in America.
I found peer reviewing of the essay to be very informative. This is because the peers see things from different perspectives, and can point out at the mistakes I made when writing. One of the suggestions I used in my revision was trying to make the story more personalized. The peers suggested that I had focused more on the general aspects of English as opposed to my personal experience. Besides, another peer suggestion was that I needed to highlight ways through which I was developing my English skill. I did this by giving examples of real life situations where I was practicing English and experiencing the American culture.
