JAMESTOWN DISCUSSION
The choice on the location of Jamestown was based on a number of key emphasis factors. An example of such factors was the fortification of the location or rather the strategies of the location in terms of defense in case of an attack. The workforce composed mostly of laborers and people skilled in construction. This is because with the settlement coming up there had to be a lot of construction work in terms of housing and other forms of shelter necessary for human survival. The economic activity was mostly agriculture which coupled with trade to form the economic backbone of the settlement. The primary agricultural product was maize due to the climate of the location of the Jamestown. Interaction with the Powhatans was minimized so as to establish their true nature before doing any substantial mingling with them.
These choices helped to stabilize the food supply as well as to raise the morale of thee colony since the people could see some economic growth. The choice on the composition of the workforce helped in the bid for governor as the people saw a development minded leader.
In terms of the consultations, the natives and the settlers were very useful to the settlers and to the colony at large. These two parties gave valuable insight into the location of the Jamestown and the challenges that would be faced in future be they environmental or otherwise. From this an inference can be made about the settlement of the actual Jamestown and how the settlers got help and insight into the location of their settlement.
Success was more probable than failure for the actual Jamestown. This success was however, firmly hinged on the relationship established with the local people. Failure to establish a formidable relationship with them would lead to certain failure. Starving times were inevitable due to the behavior of the settlers especially towards the local people.
