The people who were born between the years 1982 and 2000 and who are currently in the age group between 6 – 25 years are referred to as the Millennials. This group of people was known to have born during a time of high economic prosperity and a majority of them made their way into the workforce in a time when the economy was experiencing a recession and they are even know to have seen the rapid advancement of technology, the most important of such technological advancements being internet.
The Millennials are a demographic cohort that was raised in a highly technology oriented world and were extensively exposed to social media and other online technologies. They are the contemporary group who have garnered the maximum possible attention in terms of marketing and they are also possibly those who are ethnically diverse in nature. Having grown up in a fast paced age and also having been denoted as a special set of cohort who are different and advanced in many ways when compared to the former generation, Millennials are a highly confident lot.
A few characteristic traits that best describe the Millennials are special, highly protected, confident, achieving, team-oriented, conventional, and pressured among others. This set of people was regarded as special because the children of this age band were the most anticipated and highly wished lot. Each and every single achievement of this peer group was revered and celebrated and this set of people always wished for positive feedback often. The fact that they are highly important for both the nation as well as also their parents, they feel that they exist for offering solutions to numerous issues that are currently challenging the whole world.
The Millennials are also highly task and goal oriented, confident and are extremely motivated set of people. Children of this age bracket are highly optimistic in nature, and while they are brought up in a highly technologically advanced world, they are yet very connected to their parents. In addition, although they are highly confident, assertive and have a sense of ‘special and vital’ installed within them, and hold a high sense of respect and never question authority. They have a high degree of civic-sense and strongly respect and believe in the government and power. They are known to be used in mainstream aspects in almost everything in their life like their clothing or music among others. They strongly favor multi-tasking as they feel that this helps them in saving a lot of time, while they are ignorant of the poor quality of the final results.
In a nutshell, Millennials are highly different when compared to their former generations as they were seen as being highly important for not only their parents and families alone, but also to the nation at large. Having had the advantage of being raised in a highly technology-oriented and technology-driven society and time period, the Millennials believe in doing smart work and multi-tasking. However, they have high regards to their parents and elders in the family and value their opinion greatly. They believe that their parents know what is good and what is not for them, and hence value them highly. The focus of this cohort is more upon overall achievement instead of personal development.
