- The reading was very informative due to a few reasons. First, the reading tried to expose the connection between the human brain and the spoken language. It showed that content words in a language are stored in different compartments where they are processed. Different neural mechanisms are also involved in the processing. Second, the reading showed numerous research findings stating that the language is entailed in the left part of the brain. Third, the reading also emphasized that it is through human brain that people acquire knowledge and wisdom, so people should devote more time in understanding it so that they can assist others in acquiring that information. From a teacher’s point of view, one can get a wider perspective as to how he or she is meant to deal with students who are slow with words. By understanding the brain, a teacher is able to reach out and help these students.
- Being a teacher, neurolinguistic research provided new information concerning some of the issues on learning and understanding that go on in a classroom. According to the information provided, neurolinguistics involves the use of atypical data, which teachers and students use to understand spoken and written language. The theory of organology, which was later named phrenology, talks about how a teacher can determine different students’ personality and other traits using what he referred to as “pumps” on the skull. Although scientists have discarded most of Gall’s findings of phrenology, his view about the linguistic and other cognitive capacities being localized is still upheld by most of them. As a teacher, one has leant that students suffering from asphyxia can produce and hear sounds. What they suffer from has to do with the language faculty. There are various types of aphasics namely: Broca”s aphasia that results from brain damage on the part of the brain called Broca and Wernicke’s aphasia which results from damage on the part of the brain called Wernicke’ area. In order to help this student a teacher can revert to using pictures, which are processed in a different part of the brain.
- As a teacher, one has learned that it is important to pay more attention to children with speech problems so that they can best understand what the students mean when they speak. One of the main things that one will consider changing while dealing with students is how one approaches them. Through the article, one has learnt that it is very important for a teacher to identify the different strengths of the students by looking at their speech capability. In addition, through speech recognition one can be able to identify the necessary steps to take with slow students.
- One has found out that most people with intractable epilepsy can be treated by severing their two hemispheres of the brain, something that is referred to as split- brain. It may be perplexing how a person may communicate and co-ordinate activities when the lobes of the brain are separate from each other. In future research project, one may want to further research about this split -brain condition to understand more about language lateralization and contralateral brain functions. By understanding this and understanding how the brain works, one will be in a better position to deal with slow students.
