Ebola has caused a lot of discussions in world community on the issue whether quarantine should be applied or not. Applying quarantine has both advantages and disadvantages and due to the fact that Ebola is comparably new virus and there is a lack of information about these disease the necessity of quarantine is a matter of dispute.
Applying quarantine in USA became an issue for negotiations all over the world. It all have started when governors of three states: Illinois, New York and New Jersey; applied forced quarantine for all those who contacted infected by Ebola people in the West Africa countries. These three states three of five US airports receiving flights from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea - countries where the epidemic is a deadly disease, are located.
Another point of view is that quarantines are not the key to solving the problem of Ebola. Health expert believe that the problem must be solved by stopping Ebola virus in Western Africa. All world’s scientists should make their efforts to finding the cure for this disease - that is the only way how Ebola epidemic can be stopped. Health-care systems in Western Africa is very weak and desperately needs more highly professional experts. («3 reasons public health experts think Ebola quarantines are a terrible idea»,n.d.)
The case of Ebola nurse Kaci Hickok has shown that it is illegal to apply Ebola quarantine to a person who has no Ebola symptoms. After she was forced to stay home for 21 days she has issued a trial and won.
Even though quarantine takes into consideration the most powerful existing medical knowledge and provides you with the most serious treatment that does not mean that a person has no right to refuse it. Personally my opinion is that when it is comes to individuals health and life a person has its right to decide what kind of treatment he or she wants to get.
