Literature Review:
This interview protocol is designed keeping in view of the general questions that will be framed by a company. Each individual faces a different kind of interview, depending upon the field he is from. Also, there are some questions, which are general, and can be applied to all fields.
So, the team started up with general questions, and then went over to the career specific ones. The interview was with a female, working with Morgan Stanley as a financial advisor. The initial questions were about the position held by the candidate in the organization, need for communication skills in the present job, work timings and what she thinks is a best practice for a new financial graduate to do.
Since the field chosen was finance, it was necessary to ask about the current economic situation, as well as something specific about the subject itself – active assets account and investment products for investment solutions. The company being an investment one, understanding the company’s policies, and the field of work, and framing the questions accordingly was a necessary operation.
The answers delivered were individual ideas of the interviewee. (Orbach, Y., & Lamb, M. E., 2000)
Methodology:
Since this was an interview protocol, it was first necessary to gather information about the company the interviewee was working with. Morgan Stanley, as a company, may deal with many types of investments. To design a relevant interview protocol, it was necessary to understand the type of work they do.
These were the certain questions that the team asked themselves, before setting up the protocol –
- Identifying the persons who can be interviewed, and their most probable backgrounds.
- When the person is identified, understanding the work they do.
- Researching about the company they work for, what sort of business they do, etc.
- Finally, learn something about the exact type of work, and what sort of questions can be framed to the person based on this.
Key Findings:
The first few questions were designed as general questions, and this gave us an insight into the person’s attitude towards the job itself and how comfortable she is with the job and the work she does there.
Also, the interviewee’s general thoughts about the financial world, and her knowledge about the present market situation comes out well, on judging the answers given.
The latter part of the questions asked in the interview, about the subject helped in learning how much the candidate is thorough in her own subject.
Some questions framed also were put forward to gain an insight into the comfort level of the interviewee in the company she is working with. (Orbach, Y., & Lamb, M. E., 2000)
Limitations:
The interview protocol was designed for an employee working in a financial company – and that too, a particular one – Morgan Stanley. These questions may not be applicable for candidates working in some other field or even some other financial company, since most questions were framed keeping in mind the work culture and the protocol followed in Morgan Stanley.
