Dear Grant,
I am a former camper for All Kids program during my junior school year. I loved the experience together with the contribution the organization has brought along with it to the less fortunate children who are your main target. This is my opinion on the internship program for university graduate that is yet to be rolled out by your organization on whether to pay interns or otherwise.
Paying or not paying is the question most decision makers ask themselves whenever the idea to bring interns on board in their company, institution or organization arises. It is very unfortunate that this question does not have a definite answer. To make this decision requires a lot of exploration in terms of internship’s benefits be it to the organization or the intern. Making the choice is not a simple, one but to the intern it is that paid internship is to their advantage. For employers or decision makers in organizations such as yours might not be the case. During this post-recession economy, many decision makers will find unpaid interns a good choice ("Persuasive Letters,” 2014, p 21). However, going by public opinion, many are of the idea that interns should get paid since doing so brings with it a lot of benefits to the organization. Many people are of the opinion that organizations that pay their interns in return achieve their objective and goals as the interns give their best in the process towards achieving set goals. The fact that money is one of the ways to motivate them and also the saying “you get what you pay for” add more sense to the point. Considering paying the interns also helps with retaining them as the organization looks forward to choosing from those showing exemplary performance among other benefits (“Sample Persuasive Letter to Government", 2014, p14).
I am writing expressing my opinion as one of the graduates who would love to be an intern. From a graduate point of view and considering the current soaring financial situation, paid internship will be the best choice as it also boosts the organization’s image. In addition, ensuring the interns take something home after assisting the organization sounds ethically right. I will be glad to know the decision made by the board members and will be willing to assist further whenever called upon.
Regards,
