The structure of Intel is functional. This is one of the four main types of corporate structure. Such division presupposes that the company is divided into large specialized departments such as Human Resource, Marketing, Finance, Accounting and IT. Because the company’s main products are connected with the computer hardware the IT department in the company is the most important and is continuously developing new ideas and concepts.
The organization uses such type of structure to clearly specify and target the work of every department and to organize the human resources effectively. The advantages of this structure include clear hierarchy, comprehensive roles performed by the employees and a strict division of responsibilities that is absolutely essential for such a big company as Intel. The disadvantage of this structure may be less communication and interaction between different departments, but generally the structure is very beneficial.
The main problem of the company lies in the fact that is has centered all of its products around Windows computers, and so it is dependent on the PC market. And because the sales of PCs are not growing in the world in the last years, the company has no space to develop. Moreover, the technologies are becoming more and more mobile and people prefer the convenience of gadgets over the desktop computers. Intel needs to diversify their business in order to continue its successful functioning on the electronic market. To conclude it should be said that the problems of Intel do not result from the corporative structure which is rather beneficial for the company, but from the products they supply.
