Abstract
Introduction and Rationale
Marine Spatial Planning also abbreviated as MSP is becoming of great importance. The aim of the process is to enable integration relative to the marine realm as there have been single issue management issues causing failure. This paper will discuss the research problem, research aim and objectives, key theories that can be used successfully to address the problem and well as academic approaches. As Glave (2014) revealed the container shipping industry has not been profitable for the past five years. Further examination will involve strategic planning, survey methods and the interview process.
Research Problem
Maritime is quite unique when viewing the planning process as vessels are ordered upfront with it taking a period of time for the vessel to be built. The design process enables the transition for requirements that are necessary relative to the planning phase. Things to include configuration, form, and dimensions that are part of the process and demands engineers who understand conceptual design (Cushings, 2011). When world trade began to slow down with new vessels being delivered, the market capacity was in excess of demand thereby pushing sea freights down. Forwarders also used carriers’ weak point and began grouping to drive rates down. This problem will be examined.
Research Aim
The aim of this study is to determine the extent of excess slots capacity which decreases ocean freights. There is the need for sustainability in reference to this process with an understanding of how to solve the problem permanently. It is the hope that the research process will enable the gaining of knowledge in reference to the maritime process.
Research Objective
Business sustainability can be defined as a way for businesses to manage the longevity of the business. This will involve the defining of excess capacity in container slots and to define any additional factors that will decrease ocean freight. There is also the plan to define the impact of excess capacity in ocean freights.
Research Questions
In line with this subject and for the purposes of meeting the objectives of this study, the researcher has aimed to conduct a study that will assist in answering the following questions:
What is being done to meet actual market demand?
Rationale of the study (Theories)
This study is very important as it will play a significant role in contributing in enhancing knowledge in the area of container slot excess capacity with regard to ocean freights. Key theories that are being considered include the qualitative methodology process. Also scholarly articles and journals will be review relative to the maritime process. This information will also
continuously add to the body of knowledge.
Methodology
For the success of this research study, it is of importance to define the methods and techniques and potential action plans for how the study is going to be directed. The two approaches relative to academic research include deductive and inductive process (Bryman, 2011). This research will employ the inductive approach since the aim of this research is to develop a theory relative to the impact of foreign investments.
Research Approach
The research approach concerns the scientific plan and procedure. By using a research approach, the researcher will have the ability to start the process of decision making concerning how to make a quality decision concerning the research approach (Cameron, 2009). The research design inclusive of data collection and method will be decided on the basis of the research approach. The researchers questions proposed in the study are directly involved in the decision of the research approach.
Research design
The investigation and research structure is known as the research design. The purpose of the design is to lead the study to answer the research questions. The most common types of research design include casual research design, descriptive research design, experimental research design and correlational research design. The researchers decide research design based on the purpose and objectives of the study. The researcher conducted the investigation for the following study based on a descriptive research design which discusses and describes the characteristics of sustainable operational management practices in the automotive industry.
Timeline
The time for the research process will be within six to eight weeks. The data will be collected via the interview process with the data being reviewed by the researcher and results being analyzed. The information will them be reviewed with the report written and summarized for the report.
