Developing a Health Program in a Non-Profit Family Shelter
Summary
Health promotion is an elemental aspect of the healthcare strategy in the primary care settings and it contributes to the health focus in the primary care to the population. The healthcare program will seek to demonstrate a variety of elements. First, it will seek to demonstrate the various principles of the health promotion practices based on the recognized planning approaches of health promotion. The program should also demonstrate the avenues of linking the communities in the planning, the delivery, and the development of the health promotion programs in the primary healthcare settings (Ministry of Health). The health promotion program will also influence wider determinants of the health issues and identify the methods of strengthening the protective factors, reducing the inequalities in the health sector, and reducing the risk factors.
The health promotion program will also demonstrate partnership with the various affected communities in the decisions concerning the priorities, actions, designs, and evaluations of health promotion. Last, the health promotion program seeks to demonstrate the collaboration with the existing providers of health promotion to build on the existing services and programs of healthcare. The health promotion program will encompass coordinated groups of activities aimed at achieving the defined targets and objectives, delivered by diversified health professionals and organizations. The health promotion program will encompass the planning, the implementation, and the evaluation of activities aimed at promoting the wellbeing and the health in the non-profit family shelter and the community(Ministry of Health). The program is a participatory and inclusive activity. As such, this health promotion program in the non-profit family shelter will include certain elemental prerequisites for the health issues and action areas as well. They include the building of healthy policies, the reorienting of the health services, the strengthening of the family shelter action, the creation of supportive environments, and the development of personal skills.
Introduction
The effective coordination of the primary healthcare beyond the prevention and treatment services to encompass the comprehensive prevention of diseases and the health promotion is crucial to the primary healthcare settings strategy and the success of the strategy. As such, in order to achieve the health promotion in the health organizations, the practitioners of primary care and public health have to combine efforts and work together. As such, the purpose of this health promotion program and the reason it should be considered is that it will assist the healthcare organizations to assess, develop, and deliver the health strategies effectively to improve the status of health of the population as well as reduce the health inequalities(Ministry of Health).
As such, the core objectives of this health promotion program is to enhance the status of health of the family shelter based on the various principles of the practice of health promotion, to integrate with the local, regional, and national programs of health promotion, to build on the existing programs and implement in collaboration with the existing healthcare providers, and to be sustainable for the family shelter. As such, the proposal is that this healthcare promotion program bases on the workforce capability and capacity, and size of the family shelter as an organization in the improvement of the status of health of the organization.
Background
The procedure in place is considerable and it includes some of the major aspects of the program. The first aspect is the identification of the rationale. That is, the determination of the need for the health promotion program. This procedure encompasses the consideration of the special factor and aspects in the region of operation of the family shelter, which make certain issues or problems in healthcare significant to the family shelter and other organizations. It also involves the determination of the statistics and the information specific to the family charter, which emphasizes the issue. The rationale includes the consideration of the potential for the health gain for every priority area (Flay 23). Last, the rationale involves the determination of the various ways through which the program could reduce the health inequalities.
The population group is the other component of the procedure. It involves the identification of the affected population and the duration they will be involved in each of the segments of the process. Program description is another aspect. It includes the outlining of what the program will do. Under program description, various aspects are considered, including the goals, the objectives, and the strategies in place for the success of the program. Under the strategies, the actions, the range of resources and activities, and the setting are considered. The actions include such aspects as the plan, which includes the joint planning and consultation, the development of relationships, the arrangements, and the implementation, the conducting of the programs, the participation, the delivery, the evaluation, and the completion. The other components of the procedure include making the difference where the influence of the program is identified, the linkages with the local, regional, and national programs of health promotion, the reviews and evaluations, and the resources required(Flay 27).
As such, the combinations of these steps are vital in the solving of the issues in the family shelter because each facilitates the determination of the enhancement requirements of the other. The techniques for the enhancement of the procedure and the solving of the problem will encompass the principles of health promotion. Some of these principles include the addressing of the determinants of health, the empowerment of the individuals in the family shelter, the facilitation of inter-sectorial cooperation, and the acting to reduce the health inequalities.
Proposal
The core aspect of this health promotion program will be to improve the health of the populations and individuals in the family shelter through the provision of health services. This provision of services will require the various health prerequisites, including food, equity, social justice, stable ecosystems, income, peace, sustainable resources, and shelter. This provision will also be dependent on the strategies employed for the success of the program. As such, the various strategies identified for this model include mediation, enabling, and advocacy (Flay 35). The health promotion will seek to include a variety of activities under the program to facilitate and enhance the health status of the family shelter.
Some of these activities include the mental health programs, the early interventions for the reduction of drug dependence and alcohol use, the contribution to the community coalitions working for the access to the speed humps as well as other measures of traffic calming. This health promotion program will take place at different levels to facilitate its use and benefits. At the national level, the national awareness programs such as the media advertising, the funding activities, and government policies will be critical. At the regional level, the regional programs, such as the schools of health promotion will be elemental. Last, at the local level, essential community programs such as the support groups for the youth or the parenting course will be employed(Flay 40).

Estimated Costs
The estimated costs of the health promotion program are dependent on the main activities that would be undertaken during the implementation.
Building Health Policies $1000
Creating the Supportive Environments $1500
Strengthening the Community Actions $2000
Reorienting the Health Services $3000
Developing the Personal Skills $1500
Total $9000
Staffing Requirements
The staffing requirements needed will also be dependent on the main activities. As such, based on these activities, the human resources will be required and will be of great significance. The human resources will include the trainers, especially for the development of the personal skills. The building of health services and the reorienting of the health services will require experts with that knowledge (Harrelson 18). Researchers, technological devices, and communication gadgets will also be required for the facilitation of the flow of vital information.
The location of the health promotion program will be at the Family Shelter and the region or the environment in which it is located. The implementation of the program will cut across the various departments or sections of the family shelter to allow for the diversification and the effectiveness of the health promotion program.

Security Issues
The security issues applicable in the implementation of the health promotion program would be in the creation of supportive environments and the strengthening of the community actions. That is, the securities governing the power relations, including the elements of racism, discrimination, and stratification. Individuals and the health promotion program have to be secured from such aspects (Harrelson 20). Securing the program from such aspects is of great significance because it depicts the extent to which the success of the program can be beneficial to all the stakeholders or population involved.
Equipment and other Amenities
Technological devices including laptops, computers, and mobile phones among others will be elemental in the course of the implementation of the program. First, these devices will be of great importance especially in the determination of the budgets, the calculations, the presentation of the results using charts, and the conducting of research(Harrelson 25). The instigation or development of community actions, the building of supportive environments, and the development of the personal skills will require such social amenities as public halls or playgrounds for the training and addressing of individuals.
Hours of Operation
In order to implement and evaluate the program within limits of the specified time, it would be elemental to have two shifts daily with each having eight hours. The two shifts will allow for adequate research and follow-up, especially in the initiatory stages of the program.

Consequences
The success of the health promotion program will be of varied advantages. First, the program offers the opportunity for greater emphasis on the comprehensive prevention of diseases. As such, the program will prevent some of the diseases that could otherwise lead to the death of those suffering. The program will also bring the treatment services to the population. As such, the program will contribute to the reduction of the mortality rate (Harrelson 28). Last, the program is significant in reducing the health inequalities and assisting those in need of primary healthcare. A likely disadvantage could be the personnel disagreement, especially in the administration of the resources.
Conclusions
In conclusion, the health promotion program for the non-profit Family Shelter seeks to assist individuals in leading healthy lives and minimizing the inequalities of health services, including treatments and medical attention. Being a non-profit organization, the administration and the uniqueness of the program is that it combines a variety of activities to improve the status of health. As such, the integration of these services or activities makes it viable because with reference to the estimated costs, it will be useful in assisting and promoting health because of the diversity.
