Ladson Billings (2006) observes that achievement gap is one of the hot topics in American education system that lead to disparity between White and foreign students. The education debt continues to accumulate in economic, sociopolitical, and historical component. Ladson Billings (2006) compares the education debt to the national debt that contrasts to the national budget deficit. The education research focuses on the impoverished in America that represent an increasing number in the nation. The education researchers pursue inquiry from the foreign students while they rarely provide the solution to the problems. The prevalence of the achievement gap appears in the modern-day education literature and political spheres. The achievement gap defines the race and class in the academic achievement of the foreigners against the White students.
Ladson Billings (2006) argues that a standardized test score provides the measure of the achievement gap that continues to persist in the nation. Some of the academicians in 1960s identifies cultural deficit theories to offer an explanation in the existence of the achievement gap. The study claims that some of the color children are victimized in pathological lifestyle so as to hinder them from accessing schools. The cultural deficit theory does not provide a leeway to address the situation to ensure the minority children improve. Some of the contributors of the achievement gap include stereotype threat, pedagogical practices of the teachers, nature of the school curriculum, and other multicultural issues. A national deficit and national debt affect education translating to disparities in education. The education debt leads to fluctuations in the achievement gap. An expansion in the disparity due to income differences translates to a wide achievement gap.
The Seattle Times claims that the loss of a waiver to the children will lead to failing of some schools. The law will control the spending of the federal fund that has the objective of assisting weak students in mathematics and reading. The law will leave no child behind in this initiative. Washington is the first state to adopt this law that fails to use the full funding of education.References
