An essay identifying scope, aims and objectives of the assigned project.
The project is to reinvest the profits from the sale of an exclusive hotel into a new hotel in a nearby city. The chain has already established multiple boutique hotels within the capital and is looking to expand their territory. The new hotel will host guests in 25 – 40 luxury rooms and suites.
Scope
The project’s scope remains restricted to the required tasks of opening a new hotel within the chain. The project’s scope can be divided into four phases:
Selection
Desirable location
Capacity of 25-40 rooms and suites
Acquisition
Refurbishment
Design the capacity and services
Design the décor
Create the branding scheme
Opening
Launch the new hotel
Resources
This expansion project is being perused as a means of investing the profits from the recent sale of a successful hotel (Turner and Muller, 2002). The resources gained from the sale of the hotel are to be reinvested into the expansion. Some employees from the sold hotel have asked to be contacted in the case of job availability. The company has a great deal of financial resources, management experience and human resources that will be an asset towards the success of the project.
Budget
The company has ample finances to complete the project. The majority of the projects costs will occur in the acquisition and renovation of the new property.
Timeline
The project’s four stages will set the pace of the expansion. The most critical period is the selection phase. The chosen location must be carefully selected in order for the success of the overall project.
Aims
The aim of the project is to expand the hotel chain into a nearby city. Our exclusive group has already established a name for success within the capital city by offering the highest quality accommodations in all our boutique luxury hotels. The aim of the expansion is to carry forward our proven strategy for success into a neighboring city (Patanakul and Shenhar, 2011).
Objectives
The primary objective of the expansion project is to open the new boutique luxury hotel six months after the project’s commencement. To achieve this goal, the following objectives must remain completed on schedule, meet or exceed quality standards and remain within the set budget (Cabanis-Brewin, 2011).
Research all possible locations and prepare to gather the project team and sponsors to discuss the options on Monday, August 5th (day 80 of the project)
Project Meeting on Monday, August 5th (day 80 of the project) to narrow down the options
The research team will then prepare a detailed report on the top three options to prepare for the final selection meeting on Friday, August 9th (day 85 of the project)
The project committee, sponsor and hotel executives will meet on Friday, August 9th (day 85 of the project) to select the new location
On Monday, August 12th the project leader will forward their selection to the company’s lawyer to begin the acquisition
The project leader, sponsor and lawyer will then complete the acquisition process
The refurbishment team will complete the location’s renovations within 60 days
The marketing department will work closely with the refurbishment team to design and implement the branding scheme of the new location
The expansion project will celebrate the grand opening of the new hotel 6 months after the project’s launch
The project team leader will close the project and prepare the debriefing documents within a week of opening the new hotel
