Since the company is virtually new to me and it has no past records of project management history, as the new Chief Information Officer, I would hereby recommend the best practices of Project Management to my Chief Executive Officer. The best practices include proper planning by designing an excellent planning horizon, upholding proper planning management procedures, ensure to be on the lookout for warning signs and impending risks and lastly, resolving issues immediately they occur (Mochal,2009).
Proper planning is an essential project management practice. There is no shortcut such as jumping and starting any kind of work without thoroughly planning for it. This is what failed projects undergo and their results are always obvious (Mochal, 2009). Properly planning for your work will eventually reduce operating costs and duration hence increasing quality of the project undertaken.
Project management procedures will always show the resources that are projected to manage the project. The procedures include ways in which the team in an organization will manage arising issues, risks, quality and communication within the organization. It is vital to manage the procedures and projects proactively and rigorously to ensure that the project teams as well as stakeholders understanding how the projects will be running (Mochal, 2009).
For a project to succeed, the project manager must be in the lookout for any signs that may indicate that the project will be in some unforeseen danger in future. This can easily be identified through clear observance of any trend in the performance of the project teams (Mochal, 2009). For instance, a realization such as of declining team morale should be acted upon immediately.
The project team should also identify all existing risks and their probability of occurring and the probable impact on the project. This has to be dwelt upon beforehand to avoid the project sinking into its lowest bottom when suddenly struck by such risks. The last best management practice is resolving issues immediately they occur (Mochal, 2009). This has an effect of preventing severe damage to the projects due to impacts of the risks.
