The animal protection law
Unfair animal treatment has been a cornerstone for a very long time. People can be divided into two general groups; those who think animals are our equals or are supposed to be treated with care and respect, and those who believe that homo sapiens is a masterpiece of Universe’s creation and all the animals live to serve him, feed him, and entertain him. Ideas of non-violent attitude towards animals go back to ancient times. However as we evolved we started questioning many things, and animal protection among other issues.
Over the last century, the world has seen a great improvement in legislation regarding animal rights. Of course, in many cases, it is just on the paper, but we are getting there. For instance, women did not have the right to vote some 100 years ago, and now there are countries with female presidents. I believe that new generations are intellectually strong enough to understand the importance of equal co-existence with the Animal Kingdom. I also believe we need more activists, more educating programs because many people just do not care. Over the last 50-60 years, we have lost a lot of species due to various factors; hunting, deforestation, and captivity.
With this work, I want to explore what can be done to bring the level of unfair treatment of animals to the minimum. I think there should be some formula if we do this and that then we can achieve progress. People have overcome so many prejudices, it is time to take it further and fight for animal’s rights. So many things can be done. If not to become vegetarians, people can read about farms where animals are kept in, how they are treated and how they are killed. People can read about the zoos and circuses and see how animals are treated in there. Unfortunately, right now many good beginnings in this sphere encounter people’s indifference and somebody’s interest that is being crossed. With this work and this research, I would like to investigate ways in which legislation for protecting animals can be both possible and effective.
