The reviewed document dwells upon the basic rules that are essential for clean and concise academic writing. Generally, these rules are well-known and easy-to-follow; however, I have found a number of recommendations that I did not know, such as some of the rules on capitalization and punctuation, as well as details on the in-text citations in the MLA reference style. Some of suggested points were especially important to review, as they occasionally create difficulties in the process of writing. I find the information on stylistic aspects of writing of particular use, as I often struggle when it comes to the choice of stylistically right words in the sentences. Another issue I face is the use of simple and complex sentence structures, as it is sometimes difficult to choose the right option that will suit the sentence flow and adjust the logical organization and punctuation marks. The guide clearly explains how to avoid these common mistakes and enhance one’s writing. The suggested writing process seems well-organized and takes various aspects of academic writing into account. However, I normally skip some of the stages that are suggested, for example the rough draft; instead, I am writing the detailed outline that is based on the elaborated thesis statement and collected data during the brainstorming stage. On the basis of this outline I write the draft that is further revised and edited. All in all, the information provided in the guide gives an insight into academic writing recommendations and gives a chance to revise already acquired material and enhance one’s understanding of vital concepts and ideas of the writing process.
