It May Not Work in Politics
Maxine Waters is a perfect example of individuals who are members of the Congress, accused of violating the American ethics. The ethics committee accused her of using her position in helping a monetary institution in which her husband had invested. They argued that the amount of stock belonging to her husband would have become “worthless” if that financial institution failed. The ethics committee also accused Maxine of prohibiting the lawmakers to use the positions they had for their financial gain. According to Fabian and Crabtree, the ethics committee suggested that she also violated the “government ethics statute banning the dispensing of “special favours "(Crabtree & Fabian, 2010). However, regarding her first accusation on trying to help a bank that her husband had invested in, the One United Bank, the committee carried some investigation that made them conclude that Waters had not violated any ethics concerning that accusation.
I, however, do not agree with the committee’s verdict. Firstly, there was enough evidence that Maxine had used her position in manipulating the government to invest in the bank. Disregarding such proof is a violation of law, especially to the Americans as the money was simply stolen. Another reason why I disagree is that it took longer than expected to deliver the committee’s verdict. The three-year period was uncalled for and a wastage of resources. It also made the matter lose momentum as the evidence got tainted during the process. Clearing her of all charges means that there were twists and turns during submitting the evidence. Despite the allegations, the representative helped save the bank from collapsing, although as a disguise. The verdict of the committee makes a normal citizen of the United States lose trust in the representatives and the Congress as a whole. This is because, despite the corruption allegations raised against the members, the citizens will never see most of them get the right punishment.
Third Party Candidates
The word Third Party has been used in the U.S to mean the other political parties in the U.S other than the two main parties, Democratic Party, and the Republican Party. There are several reasons why the third parties never win elections in the United States of America.
Reasons Why Third Parties Fail To Win Presidential Elections
The presence of the political arrangement which works to ensure that the Third Party is excluded from winning any of the presidential elections is the first reason. According to Lyon, the main one is “the winners take all laws that govern the allocation of the State electoral votes” (Lyon, 2016). This law suggests that only the party which gets the most votes is qualified to win the United States’ presidential election. This is the reason why only the main two parties in the United States have been winning the presidential election rather than the Third Parties as citizens are more familiar with the two main parties.
The lack of media coverage is the other reason that makes the third parties not to win any of the presidential election. For example, In Raph’s last run, they kept asking him why he was running rather than concentrating on the contribution he would bring if he won the presidential election (Nwazota, 2016).
The other reason that makes the third party fail is the paperwork demanded so that a candidate can be viable. For example, when Raph said he wanted to be nominated as a president in the year of 2004, he was asked to collect very many signatures so that he would qualify for the presidential nomination. The demand was quite challenging as it could have consumed the candidate’s campaign time.
The people in the United Sates also play a part in the failure of the third Party to win United States’ presidential election. This is because most of the individuals argue that a divided government is avoided when a two-party system is in place.
Lastly, the political parties that benefit from the government funding to help finance their campaign are those that must have received some certain number of votes during the previous election. This is a challenge that makes the candidates of the third party unable to access enough funds for their campaigns. They are forced to find other means of raising more money required to support their campaign (Nwazota, 2016).
Federal and State Authority and Their Role on the Current Issue
One of the current issues that are affecting the citizens and other inhabitants of the United States is terrorism. The changes in technology, which have made the terrorist organizations change their way of communicating and training their members have caused the level of terrorism cases to increase in the United States. For this reason, the State, and the Federal government have been working together to address this disturbing issue. They are however expected to ensure that they adhere to what the constitutions of the United States instruct them to do despite being given all the authority and power to deal with the issue. (Terwilliger, Coopersein, Gunnarson, Blumenthal & Paerker, 2016).
How the State and the Federal Government Address the Issue of Terrorism
The Federal and the State government have also been ensuring that all the passengers entering the United States have been properly screened. All the cargo they possess is also screened in the process. Also, the DHS requires that passenger information is provided by all the airlines that are flying to U.S before departure (Carafano, Rosenzweig, & Kochems, 2005). If well applied, the methods can aid in eradicating terrorism in the United States with ease.
