Kinesiology is program which is studies at university and it is related to the studying movement of body in a scientific way. Physiology is an integral part of these studies as well as biomechanics and psychology and philosophy of sports. Both professional and recreational sports are taught at university and a person could become a coach or a teacher as well as a personal trainer. The most important aspect of kinesiology is stress relief which is why studying stress prevention needs to be accentuated.
Anatomy and biology are studied as well and biomechanics and the role of sport in everyday life which is essential for people to be acquainted with these studies. People who graduate kinesiology may become coaches, teachers or personal trainers depending on their preference. Upon graduating, a person may pursue as career in biomedicine and other areas where medicine is combined with health and motion. “The Physical Education Teaching Option (48 units) is designed to prepare students for teaching physical education in grades K-12 in public and private schools” (California State University). There are many researchers who studies kinesiology as well as consulting professionals. They are engaged in studying health and developing safety measures to help prevent injuries from happening. Exercising is a crucial part of kinesiology studies because the aim is to improve the physical abilities of a person who may be a professional athlete or a not. The exercise may be done in therapeutic purposes and the usual type of exercising is aerobic because it helps improve the cardiovascular system. “One beginning level course must be repeated at the intermediate level. Satisfactory completion in each of five categories; swimming, combatives, teams sports, individual or dual sports, and fitness activities” (California State University). All of these activities are essential for the person to become an expert upon graduating. Activities which improve the general well-being of a person and their physical and mental capabilities need to be developed.
Exercising which is anaerobic helps build muscles and making the body lean. Other aspects which have to be integrated in the studies are balance, coordination and flexibility so that the risk of injuries is decreased. Another important result is that exercising will reduce stress and the risk of depression and will improve metabolism and prevent cardiovascular diseases. The life and sleep quality will improve as well as the immune system of a person which is why it is important to study Exercise and stress as a major course because psychological illnesses influence the person’s body as a whole. This course deals with “The nature of stress and its relationship to exercise, the physiology of the stress response, its role in disease, and immediate and long term interactions of exercise and stress” (California State University). Many people suffer from mental health illnesses and these can be prevented by exercising daily. A good Physical Education teacher will be able to make young people understand the importance of sport and its role in the prevention of many illnesses. It is better to work on prevention than to have to take medicines and physiotherapy afterwards.
The major course which is important would be Exercise and Stress and the course which is less relevant is The Dance Experience because dancing is not an essential part of sports activities. However, modern lifestyle asks for people to engage in practicing sports and exercising because most people work in a sedentary position. Stress relief is important because it can prevent the development of serious problems related to the psyche and the body and it can increase a person’s life span because of the benefits of sport. This is the psychological side of sport and it is the most important because not only professional people practice sports. People in general need to be educated on the importance of regular physical exercise so that they would integrate it into their everyday lifestyle.
There are many benefits related to exercising which gave great effect on the state of a person’s mental health. This is the most important aspect of exercising because many illnesses are caused by mental disorders. “Exercise is positively associated with self-esteem, independent of structural factors, stressors, and social support. The more an individual exercises, the higher the level of self-esteem that individual possesses“ (Ensel and Lin 94). Fitness is of the utmost importance for the overall benefit of a human being and young people need to be taught about the importance of physical activities which is why this course is essential for Physical Education teachers. Moreover, “a low fitness level implies that the individual does not have the adequate “resource” to cope with the stressful condition, thus resulting in higher level of distress (or, alternately, lower level of well-being)“ (Ensel and Lin 96). The importance of fitness for the stress relief should be stressed and learned from childhood.
Kinesiology is a scientific field of study which is relevant for the well-being of all people. There are numerous careers which can be pursued after the graduation and all of the fields of kinesiology are related to stress relief and the physical and mental health of all people. Everybody should be encouraged to seek professional help within the field of kinesiology because all generations have to learn how to deal with stress.
