The world is suffering from a huge crisis in the present day as the population across the lands faces the evil of economic disparity. While a section of the world population is prospering materialistically and gaining on lifestyle and affluence, another part of the human race faces the threat of malnutrition and hunger.
These hapless people are facing the brunt of life and their plight evokes pangs of empathy in the hearts of the people who comprehend the enormity of their pain and helplessness. Lack of food is horrendous for such people and it also reflects the sheer weakness of their economic status and exposes the tales of misery of these people who have to toil day in and day out to find nourishment to sustain.
The onus of providing the basic need for sustenance to the hapless people rests on the shoulders of the respective governments of the states. However, it is seen that despite the unflinching efforts of the state authorities, it is often not entirely possible to counter the ill of hunger and poverty.
The NGOs play a huge role in countering the curse of hunger and haplessness in the countries across the globe. Philanthropists also come forward to contribute to the betterment of these people who are in need of help and support from the stronger and capacious section of the society.
The need of the hour is collaboration among the nation states to come forward to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. The rich should also contribute to the cause and fulfill their social responsibility.
Global hunger is a tormenting fact which threatens the very basic advancement of the human civilization and evokes the feeling of helplessness. It reflects the disparity of wealth and the divide of status among people. The very fact that even in the age of globalization where the world is basking in the technological boom and advancement a huge mass of people are still badly in need of food to meet their hunger is shocking.
The situation of prevailing food insecurity and hunger on a local level is known as local hunger. Local hunger of various places cumulatively gives rise to global hunger. It is one of the most challenging issues of the present day scenario of the world society and there needs to be much effort to do away with the shortcomings of economy and development which give rise to such horrifying situations for the people.
In the United States of America, one person out of every six is food insecure and it has been ascertained that out of four children one lives in a house which is unable to provide security of food to the ward. Back in the year 2008, it was estimated that as many as 49 million individuals were suffering from insecurity of food in the country. The figures are startling as America is one of the richest nations in the entire world and it produces huge amount of food products.
Glauber Rocha has emphatically penned in his seminal essay, Aesthetics of Hunger, how the people of Latin America are facing the odds in their lives and fighting with the curse of poverty and hunger. Latin America is also one of the very first regions in the entire world which has taken the initiative of eradicating hunger. The nations in this region have stressed on economic growth to fight with the challenge and help the people. Brazil has come up as a leading country in its continuous endeavor of fighting the crisis. It has been noted that 49 million people were in the clutches of hunger in the region in the years 2010-2012, which is about 8.3 percent of the total population. In this region, the women and the children are affected by the crisis more than men.
Another poverty-ridden region on the globe is the Africa. The sheer poverty which threatens the huge population residing in the region needs to be countered at any cost. It has been estimated that over 30 million people face hunger in this region of the world. Even a huge number of children remain under-nourished as they cannot be fed properly owing to the huge economic crisis which prevails. Ranging from West Africa to Sudan and East Africa, the entire region faces the same crisis.
In fact, in the third world countries of the world, this crisis is quite alarming for the governments and the population. The economic disparity in these nations is astonishing and the poor people need much more support than what they are getting now. In countries like India, Bangladesh it is very difficult for the poor people to make their ends meet.
Thus, in juxtaposition to the growth in technology and capital, the huge part of human race is at the verge of great danger of starvation and malnutrition. It is the moral and ethical duty of the richer nations to come together to help the poor out of such plight. The governments, the NGOs, the organization of nations should all come forward and join their hands to try and eliminate the crisis from the world.
