The type of communication adopted during research is of crucial importance. This is because in many instances, research usually involves asking questions to the subjects or the participants of the research. For these participants to answer questions appropriately, the researcher must be able to communicate appropriately to them. The experience, particularly the conversations I had significantly matched the research I did about communication. I found the research to be extremely helpful. This is because, from the research, I was able to structure my conversations in a way that was more effective. I had gained a lot of facts information form the research that I was able to apply to my conversations. From the research, I had been able to conclude some of the most effective communication techniques. However, all this was theoretical and the conversations I had provided a platform for me to determine whether the techniques established from the research were indeed effective.
For example, in SOLER technique to be very effective. SOLER refers to five crucial things that should be observed in communication. S stands for facing the other person squarely, H stands for head nods to show agreement or that one is following the conversation; O stands for adopting an open posture, L stands for leaning forward towards the other person, E is for eye and means maintaining eye contact and finally, R stands for relaxed whereby one is supposed to be relaxed when carrying out the conversation. By using this technique, I found my conversations to be very effective, and this was in fact the communication skill that I found to be most useful.
The conversations I had also matched the research that I did about care value base. Care value base by definition refers to an ethical code that carers are supposed to abide by. This ethical code governs how they ought or are supposed to act in specific situations to ensure that they are in no way discriminatory, unkind or are providing poor care. My research suggested that the type of communication adopted in regards to aspects such as tone is very crucial in care value base. The research equipped me with adequate information that enabled me to communicate in a better or more caring way. I found that when people are spoken to in a caring and respectful way, or in a way that makes them feel they are appreciated, they are likely to respond in the desired manner. The research was therefore very helpful and from the information I gained from, I was able to apply it to my experience (conversations) and acquire the desired responses.
In the future, I am likely to come across people similar to the ones that I came across in my research. I will still apply some of the things I have learnt from the research. However, I will also do some things different to make the outcomes even better. For instance, I plan to give more time to the people to express themselves and only reserve a little time to myself. This is because listening more is always better than talking. The other thing that I will probably do differently is to keep the people more interested in the conversation by incorporating random humor breaks. This is because I have found out that if a conversation is boring, then the outcome is likely to be very unfavorable.
