Being known to people is a social phenomenon that is ascribed to the objects that the popular individual interacts with. People in the society become well known because of the collective attention that they get from the societal members. Although all human beings have a role that they play in the society, the individuals who are well known provoke a social influence to other members in the society. The reports that individuals give towards the person determines a person's popularity or how well the person is known. However, every individual is significant; all that differs is the level of popularity among other members in the community. Despite the thought of any person passing away being significant, people who are well-known have more significance than the average person when dying.
Well-known people live a life full of respect when compared to the lives of the average men. In life, a person attains popularity through interacting with more people and involving in activities that promote interaction. Popular people enjoy more advantages than the average people in the society. While alive or even after death, the people who are well known leave behind an icon, which shows that people will never be forgotten. The importance of being known to people is that, in case, an individual gets an emergency that needs attention; people tend to cater for the people they know better than the average societal members (Spieser 27). An example is the illness and death of the late Nelson Mandela. Mandela was a person known by many people, not only in South Africa, but also in the world. After Mandela was declared dead, many world leaders showed tenderness through their speeches of condolences. The family of the late Mandela was supported after and even before the death of Mandela. However, this is different from the societal happenings, because many average people die, but are not recognized by anybody. The people who are well-known are remembered by the society even after their death, which is a different case from the average people, who lack appreciation even when alive.
A person gets to be known by other people, because of the activities that the individual is involved in or the job that a person does (Taylor 56). For example, comparing a politician to an accountant, the politician is popular and well known to all the members of the society including the children. The popularity of the politician is determined by his or her occupation. For one to be successful in politics, campaigning is inevitable. In the process of doing the campaigns, the politician will be well known to all the people. The popularity of the politician is important because it will earn him votes during the elections. Being well known to people is important because a person receives favors from all the people who know you. The individuals who are well known are expected to perform their duties better than the average people. This happens because the individuals who are well known are trusted and thus increase the social interaction between societal members. The average and ordinary people are given the benefit of doubt and have to prove that they are of value to the society or an organization.
Well known individuals are treated with more respect than the average people. When it comes to chances and opportunities, average men are treated with doubt regardless of the abilities that they have. The average people have a role of proving to the public that they are capable of handling certain situations that are believed to be handled by professional. Being known to people gives person favors such as job opportunities. Example in a company that wants to employ professionals, the people who are popular and known to majority people including the administrators of the company will have the added advantage. The average people will be discriminated and in case of employment they will be closed monitored to ensure that they are perfect in their duties, according to the expectations of the employee.
Well known people are important because they feel safe and secure. The people who are known by majority of the members in the society are free from situations that affect the average people such as suspicions during theft. There are people who cannot be suspected of wrong doing because their characters are well known to all the people. In the case of theft, some of the average societal members face the brutal hand of the law or the mob when suspected to be the thieves. Interaction between people is significant because it is due to this interaction that people get to be known to the public. The value that an individual has in the society is the one that determines how popular the person will be (Mulford 21).
In times of giving views and predictions, the views of the well-known people are respected and followed, whereas those of the average men are despised. The popular people are thought to be wise, intelligent, and all knowing. In cases when the views of the well-known people are followed, this means that generally, the matters concerning the society will favor the popular people. It is difficult for a society to follow the views of the average people because they are regarded as inexperienced, and full of doubts. The popular people have a role to play in the decision making of the society or even the country. This happens because the popularity of these people happens because of the influence that they have over the community members. The citizens believe that the people they know are better than other individuals, who they are not familiar with. In cases where meetings are held in order to make decisions, the individuals who are well known attract the attention of the members in the meeting, and thus the probability of their decisions being followed is high.
Popularity among people is important because it raises the social status of an individual. The social status that a person gets from being well known to other people is important because it plays the role of social decision making. The popularity of an individual makes the person to be known by more people in the society. The leaders who are well known to people become more powerful than the average individuals who are chosen as leaders. Being known to people is an advantage because it improves the social status of the individual. Popularity enhances the feeling of social approval by the societal members (Mulford 31). The individuals who feel that they are approved by the society, both in their workplaces and their homes attain positive trends in the activities that they carry. The people who are well known feels more appreciated compared to the average people in the society. Appreciation promotes positive behaviors among individuals in the society. Research shows that, in workplaces, the workers who are well-known and popular to most people produce better results compared to the average people who lack popularity.
Being well-known to people, increases the motivation that individuals have towards their jobs and duties. The people popular individuals work hard to maintain their space in the society because all other society members refer to them as the pace setters. The individuals who are known by many people fear shame because, in case of failure, all other people in the society will notice. This is the reason popularity increases the motivation of individuals towards their duties. Popularity is linked to individual performance, group performance, and job satisfaction. The people who are well known, besides the feeling of more satisfaction with their jobs, they feel more secure, and believe that they their working conditions are good. Comparing the average individuals to the people who are well-known at their places of work, the well-known workers have a feeling of responsibility and belongingness.
The average men who are in leadership positions are not as effective as the well-known individuals who are given the chance to lead. The individuals, who are well-known to people, and in leadership positions at the same time, are accepted by the group of people that they lead. Being popular among groups of people boosts the self-esteem that an individual has. The people who are well known are liked, which boosts their self-esteem and makes them feel good about themselves (Spieser 33). The popular people need not be popular for the crowds for them to have good friends and a good time.
The people who are well known have prominent profiles and command a degree of public influence and fascination in the day-today lives. Some individuals become popular because of media attention. Research shows that most of the well-known people end up becoming successful in life. Average people face humiliation in the society because they lack recognition. Some average men in the society have talents and abilities, but they are neither recognized nor appreciated. Leadership posts are given to only the people who are known by most people in the society. There are many average people who have skills to lead, but lack popularity to the public. This makes them discriminated, which leads to lack of the leadership posts. Such privileges are enjoyed by the rich, and the people who are well known by the members of the society.
Some individuals, however, become well known to the societal members because of their professions, committing mass murder, or through appearances in the media. Some individuals become known for a short period then afterwards they disappear. However, being known for a short period is also important because, during this time, the individual enjoys passion and self-motivation. The average men lack passion, diligence, tenacity, and self-motivation when carrying out their duties and daily chores (Agarwal 85). Moreover, the average men lack wealth and say when it comes to decision making.
Well-known people in the society are taken seriously when compared to the average men. When it comes to matters concerning the social situations in the society, the views of the well-known people are considered more than the views of the average people. This means that the well-known people are more influential in decision making than the average men. During public rallies and functions, the well-known people are the ones who are given a chance to talk and address the public. During this time, these people get a chance to address their views publically. The popular people are thought to be wise and intelligent, and this is the reason they are allowed to address the public. On the other hand, the members of the public are patient as they are being addressed by the people they know well. Average men fail to get chances to address the public because people doubt if the people have wise words that they can share to the society (Taylor 65). In situations when an average man is left to address the public, some of the individuals fail to pay attention because they are not confident of the speaker.
The people who are well-known enhance unity in the society. The functions that are held or attended by the popular individuals are attended by many societal. During these meetings, there is interaction that promotes unity among people from different societies. This is different when compared to cases when the average men hold meetings. In meetings held by average men, few people attend because they despise the average men who have organized the meeting. Average men have less influence to the members of the society than the well-known members of the society. Well known people in the society are important because they influence the behavior of many societal members. Most of the members in the society follow the behavioral traits of the popular people. The people who are known well by societal members, especially the politicians influence the decisions that individuals or groups of people make. This happens because the members of the public tend to follow the popular people, who are perceived as wise and intelligent.
The activities that the members of public engage in after the death of a well-known person show the importance that the person had to the society. The burials of average men are attended by few people and are of no influence to the public. Some of the well-known people are buried in special graves, for the future generation to see them. The burials of well-known people are attended by many people, including political leaders. Speeches that are made are meant to congratulate the late on the job he or she had done while alive. Well-known people are buried in expensive coffins, as a sign of respect, whereas some of the average people are shown no respect at the time of their burial. After the death and burial of an important person, the members of the public, well-wishers and political leaders adopt the role of ensuring that the family of the deceased well-known man is taken care of. These deeds are done as a sign of respect for the deceased, who was an important person to the community. The families of some of the deceased average people suffer poverty and hunger because no person shows concern to them.
The laws are set in such a way that the well-known people are respected and honored (Taylor 71). Example, when a prominent person commits a crime and is found guilty, the person will be taken to a special prison that is evicted from those of the average people. Although these are also prisons, the prisons of the prominent people are different and more comfortable than those of the average men. When it comes to modes of travelling, most of the well-known people such as the president and politicians fly in special airplanes that are not used by the average members of the society. The well-known people enjoy more luxury than the average members in the society. In most of the government corporations and institutions, there are sections that are set specifically the popular people, which mean that the average men are not allowed in these areas. The well-known people enjoy their lives well because everywhere they visit, and their deeds attract the attention of people. Once an individual realizes that the attention of the public is on him or her, this motivates the individual to do more good than before. The passion and the morale of the individual are increased.
Unlike the average men, well known people get special treatment wherever they go. When the popular people visit public places such as restaurants, they are carefully treated with respect, unlike the average men, who are treated ordinarily. The well-known people are given respect because they are well recognized everywhere they go. Apart from recognition, the popular and well-known people have fans that support them and give them the morale in life. Some of the fans take a further step of writing letters to the people they know to appreciate them, maybe for something that has been done in a good way. Moreover, the well-known people get more opportunities than the average men (Mulford 46). These opportunities can either be career related or not. Example, when a company wants to make an advertisement, they will look for the person who is well-known to the society, who will be influential enough. The well-known people are likely to be richer than the average men in the society. Wealth will automatically come because of the duties and chores that are given to the popular people in the society.
The influence that the well-known people have in society makes them secure sponsors from both companies and sometimes the fans. The average men lack recognition from other people in the society and thus promotions and sponsorships will not be given to them. Average people have limitations in life, meaning that there are some desires that they have, which they lack the capacity of meeting. The people who are well-known enjoy the freedom of visiting all the places they want and meeting all the people they want, including seniors, and leaders in the government. Well-known people are always in the eyes of the public, which means that the public will appreciate even the little efforts that are made by the prominent people. Average men are hardly recognized because they lack the popularity. Life of an average man is not as simple as that of the well-known individuals in the society.
