Comninos, Peter. Mathematical and Computer Programming Techniques for Computer Graphics. London: Springer Science & Business Media, 2010. Print. Comninos argues that mathematics subject is the basic and essential element in the computer programming techniques applied in the Computer Graphics. The mathematical ideas form the framework for understanding the two-dimension and three-dimension concept in the computer graphics. For instance, the book suggests that there is a relationship between the C programming language and the related techniques of mathematics.
Ke, Fengfeng, and Barbara Grabowski. "Gameplaying for maths learning: cooperative or not?" Br J Educ Technol 38.2 (2007): 249-259. Print. The study was aimed at determining the effect of the computer games on the fifth-graders mathematics attitude and performance. Using the Multivariate analysis of covariance, the study concluded that game playing promotes performance in maths. In addition, cooperative game playing indicated the most effective impact on enhancing the positive attitudes on maths irrespective of the students' individual differences.
Kebritchi, Mansureh, Atsusi Hirumi, and Haiyan Bai. "The effects of modern mathematics computer games on mathematics achievement and class motivation." Computers & Education 55.2 (2010): 427-443. Print. The study investigates the impact of the computer games on students' mathematics motivation and achievement, and the role of computer skill, mathematics knowledge, and English language on computer games. The results illustrated that there is an improvement in motivation and achievement in mathematics to the students who regularly play computer games. However, computer English language, prior mathematics knowledge did not have a significant impact on the motivation and achievement on game playing.
Lopez-Morteo, Gabriel, and Gilberto López. "Computer support for learning mathematics: A learning environment based on recreational learning objects." Computers & Education 48.4 (2007): 618-641. Print. The study aims to investigate the impact of the computer on student attitudes towards mathematics by using an Interactive Instructors of Recreational Mathematics (IIRM) software. The results indicate that the application of the IIEM-based electronic learning environment positively influences the student attitudes on mathematic. Therefore, computer and mathematics are closely related.
Makinson, D. Sets, logic and maths for computing. London: Springer, 2008. Print. The book suggests that basic mathematic tools are necessities in Computer Studies or Information Science Explore because they provide interplay between calculations and qualitative thinking. The computing requires the ability to transform concrete issues into the abstract demonstration, develop an abstract structure thought, and formulate a specific solution to the problem. Such skills are derived from the mathematical concepts and techniques. Therefore, the computing aspect of the computers requires the user to understand basic mathematical techniques and concepts.
Vince, John. Mathematics for Computer Graphics. 4th ed. London: Springer Science & Business Media, 2013. Print. The book illustrates that various problem-solving strategies and mathematical techniques are related to the computer games, virtual reality, and computer animation among other fields of computer graphics. The book asserts that mathematics are applied in various areas of computer graphics in various ways such as number sets, algebra, trigonometry, transforms coordinate systems, interpolation, quaternions, and curves and surfaces. Other mathematical areas include geometric algebra, analytic geometry, differential calculus, barycentric coordination, and integral calculus. The book shows that mathematics and computers are closely related.
Significant of the topic
In the contemporary world, the use of computer has significantly increased resulting in the development and growth of computer science course. The computer science course helps the students to understand the computer designs, computer security, and storage as well as the future invention of computers. On the other hand, the computer helps to promote mathematical attitude and performance. Therefore, to determine how mathematics are related to computer, it is important to research whether mathematics are part of computer science. Is there an interaction between the mathematic course and computer science? If there is, this study can be used to help the school use mathematics knowledge to improve understanding of computer science and use computers such as computer games to improve the mathematic Knowledge.
