Wealth is abundance of something whether it has physical nature or not, it helps to make people better off. This is the most general definition which I would like the explanation to start with. This word is commonly used in different situations and touches upon different spheres of human life; that is why the word “wealth” has several shades of the meaning that are very interesting to discuss in this paper.
First definition is from economics: “Total of all assets of an economic unit that generate current income or have the potential to generate future income” (Wealth). So if we speak about wealth of separate people or companies, then we speak about benefits that this wealth brings.
Very often this word is used in the metaphoric sense when we speak about having something that is good for our soul, health, happiness and good state of mind. The word “wealth” is very meaningful that is why it does not only describe the very abundance but the state of person who is wealthy. “The state of being rich; prosperity; affluence” (Wealth). For me, being wealthy means being healthy, having family and friends, being able to see, to feel, to move. It does not presuppose to have some material things or money. However, it is a norm to use this word to show that somebody has a lot of money.
One more interesting definition for this word was given by one boy: “the number of days you can survive without physically working and still maintain your standard of living” (The Definition of Wealth). I find it wise and very well thought about because it is a way of explanation from an absolutely different angle.
