Brazil is also well-known for production of wine. The Brazilians have developed the culture of taking wine at different occasions, more especially during meals. Particularly, consumption of wine produced through the traditional method, as it is affordable to all people, is a common phenomenon. The country has a significantly large number of vineyards. However, most of these vineyards produce table grapes, and few of them produce Brazilian wine. A large percentage of the total wine production in the country takes place in the southern region, because of the favorable climate for growing grapes in this particular area.
The culture of wine production and consumption in the country has been significantly influenced by the historical interaction of the people of this country and those from the other parts of the world. The Portuguese were the first people to introduce wine in Brazil, in 1532, who started growing grapes in Sao Paulo state. Later on, in 1626, Spanish wines were introduced by the Spanish settlers. In 1800s Italian wines were introduced by the Italian settlers. Winemaking had become a viable venture in the country by 1880s. However, it is not until 1970s that production of wine in large-scale in Brazil begun. Currently, Brazil is ranked fifth among the top wine producers in the world. The country is competing with highly established countries in wine production, such as Italy, France, Argentina, and the United States. Based on the rate at which wine production in the country is expanding, it can be argued that is just a matter of time before it becomes the leading wine producer globally. There are three types of wines produced in Brazil. First wines produced using the traditional method (Methode Champenoise). Second is the wine that is produced through the Charmat Method. Lastly is the wine produced using the Asti-style Moscato. Examples of wine brands available in the Brazilian market include: Teroldego, Tannat, Tempranillo, Syrah/Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Gamay, Ancellota, and many more.
As mentioned above, Brazilians have developed a culture of drinking wine during various occasions. For instance, celebrations of various kinds involve wine drinking, because wine is seen as part of culture of the people. Besides, most people drink wine during or after meals, especially in the evening. Drinking wine after work is also a common happening among the Brazilian people. All these indicate how wine is highly regarded in the Brazilian culture.
I believe I deserve to get an A in this particular course because of various reasons. Most importantly, I have taken an active role in the group project, participating in various discussions with my group members. Each and every member was assigned a specific part of the project to handle. To complete my part of the assignment, I had to go beyond what we have been given in class, through conducting further studies using various materials. Undertaking further research has not only enabled me to produce a good piece of work, but also it was an opportunity for me to gain more knowledge in this course which I could not have gained if I relied solely on the materials provided in class. For these reasons, I believe an A would be a good reward for my effort in this course, and it would be a good motivation for me to continue putting the same effort in other courses.
