Introduction
The father of the integrated circuit is none other than Jack Kilby. He was of the major forces behind integrated circuits that combined efforts with other great minds in the year 1958. He was an engineer who would deal with electronics. He was born in the year 1923 in Missouri and passed on in 2005 in Texas after succumbing to cancer. He is also a laureate Nobel Prize winner in the year 2000 having been recognized as being a great contributor in physics. ‘’He also many more things, for example, the calculator that would be easy to carry around since; it was hand held, and a printer that used warm air power’’ (Yang, D., 2013). Jack Kilby is one of the pioneers of technology in relation to electrical engineering since; his line of work and careers revolved around electrical engineering. However, he became a household name when he invented the integrated circuits.
While he was still working on his master’s degree, he was still working in Milwaukwee at centralab. After completion of his school, he moved in to Texas instruments as an engineering employee. This is where he had all the ample time that rendered him to the discovery of the Integrated Circuit. He advanced his careers through the progressions seen in the advancements he makes in the engineering department by solving the problem of circuit design. He was relentless when it came to searching for solution that related to electrical engineering. ‘’He became aggressive in nature in terms of advancing in jobs and making inventions in the field of electrical engineering’’ (Clayton, S., 1987). He established different submissions ranging from profitable, martial to manufacturing of computer chip expertise. He had the opportunity to hold a key station in Texas A &M University as an eminent professor of electrical engineering. He was not oriented in money as it is depicted when he took a break from the Texas Instruments. He was result oriented.
Major Inventions/Achievements.
He is known to have been behind some of the major inventions in the world. One of the major inventions is the integrated circuit in the year 1958 as a way of providing a way out to the issue in the design of the circuits in Texas Instruments. The invention incorporated the plug-in path units. ‘’He invented several semi-conductors integrated circuits, network diode and Gates, self-contained circuit modules and the electronic circuits’’ (Marshall Cavendish Corporation, 2008).He also invented the printer that used thermal power to operate and the portable calculators. He had been granted the patent rights in all of the above inventions thereby; requiring his name and permission to appear on the products. The inventions have contributed greatly in the field of engineering since they would make work easier. For example, the portable calculators made work easier and also reduced the errors in calculations thereby; improving the quality of work done.
Comments.
Jack Kilby was a motivating and would work tirelessly in relation to the factors that would seem to pose great danger to the human species. For instance, he developed the urge to innovate an integrated circuit as a way of rectify the problem that was with the design of the circuits in Texas Instruments where he was an employee. For you to succeed in life, one must have the spirit of not giving up. Jack kilby is seen as a motivator since; he worked on the circuits till when he came up with a reliable solution.
Education should also be used as a stepping stone to get you to where you aspire to be. Despite having advanced in age, he is seen acquiring his master’s degree. His age did not deter him from achieving his dreams and, this is the patience that most people lack in their day to day lives. The knowledge one acquires in school could be helpful at a later date in life. He used the know-how he had acquired in the field of electrical engineering and expertise to come up with several inventions that involved the use of circuits in much equipment.
The awards and the honors received are as a result of hard work. It portrays that nothing good comes easy in life and, one has to work for it. Nowadays, technology has eased almost everything and it has rendered many young people being unproductive and dormant due to over-reliance on the advancements in technology. There are short-cuts to prosperity in life as it might be perceived. Jack had to work extremely hard since; he had to balance between work and school. Nevertheless, headwork never goes unrewarded.
