Grants, especially in the field of research, refer to the funds or monetary support provided to a team of scientists or researchers. These funds are usually given by departments of the government, philanthropic corporations, organizations, foundations, or trust. Research Grants varies in terms of range and type depending on the research needs of a particular research study (Human Frontier Science Program, 2010; Doctors of Nursing Practice, 2015).
There are numerous research grants available for different kinds of research for researchers or scientists all over the world. In addition, in order to acquire a research grant, researchers should be able to identify different foundations, philanthropic corporations, or government departments that provide support or assistance to researchers in the same field of practice like in biomedical research, doctor of nursing practice, or in public health. The acquisition of a research grant is possible after successful accomplishment of the letters and requirements of the corporation or organization. Before applying for funding, it is necessary to consider the scope of the research project as well as the funds needed to complete the said project (Human Frontier Science Program, 2010; American Nurses Association, 2016).
Some of the research grants on the field of doctor of nursing practice or advanced nursing practice include the various local chapters of the Sigma Theta Tau International. Additionally, other associations of nurses may also award different research grants in terms of dollars and even research opportunities. Included in the list of organizations that provided research grants are American Nurses Foundation, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, National Institute of Nursing Research, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Federal and Foundation Funding, Community of Science, Emergency Nurses Association Foundation, and National Association of School Nurses (American Nurses Association, 2016; The Daisy Foundation, 2017).
During the course of my DNP Project, I have not been able to apply for a research grant for different scholarship activities. Despite this fact, I still have an idea about the different processes as well as some of the requirements of various organizations and departments.
My presentation for a grant application will be focused on my DNP project. This presentation will be presented to other healthcare providers, school staff, preceptor, mentor, and other students of the doctor of nursing practice course. The title of my DNP project is “EB Guidelines and Vaccination Protocol for healthcare providers (MD, NP, RN, MA) assisting Elderly Hispanic Population”. With this presentation in mind, it is necessary to look for organizations and corporations that support researchers in the field of geriatric health and vaccinations.
One research grant focused on aging is the Glenn/AFAR Breakthroughs in Gerontology Award. This research award is sponsored by The Glenn Foundation for Medical Research. It provides monetary support to research projects which aim to provide support for the translational potential of some strategies in terms of aging and health span. The award for this grant is $100,000 per year. The duration of the award as well as the amount of funding can be changed by the sponsors during the review process (American Federation for Aging Research, 2017).
Another research grant in the field of DNP is the research grant provided by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. The recipients of this award may receive a maximum of $2,500 in funding. The eligibility of the researcher as well as the DNP project will be reviewed upon the application of the different application process and interviews (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2016).
