Personal ethical framework
Ethics refers to the principles that guide the conduct of a person or entity in the society (Bennett, p.8). The principles help in evaluating if an issue is right or wrong. Ethics thus plays a role in ensuring both people and firms live a harmonious life that is guided by rules. Ethics is a broad concept and hence this paper will focus on explaining my ethical framework. I explain my ethical framework and some of the principles that I consider valuable in life.
My ethical framework is consequence-based and is founded on the following principles equity, social responsibility, transparency, and professionalism (Kramer et al, 24). These principles guide me in day-to-day life activities. Although I cannot consider myself as being a strong adherer of the principles, I always to strive to live according to them. Beginning with the principle of equity, I always believe all people should be treated fairly in the society. There should not favoritism and hence all people and entities should be given an equal opportunity to explore their potentials.
Secondly, I believe all people and entities should be socially responsible. All entities should be sensitive to the welfare of other people. I believe I should be responsible in all the duties I do in life to avoid a situation where other people may be hurt by my actions. For instance, I believe driving on the right lane and observing government laws are some of the steps of being a socially responsible person. The purpose of social responsibility is to ensure my actions do not hurt another person. For business entities such as firms, I always believe they have a duty of ensuring their business activities positively contribute to the welfare of the society. They should not engage in acts that may pose harm to people. For instance, firms should not produce products that pose harm to the health of the people. Instead, they should focus on empowering the society by launching programs that improve the social status of the people (Gregg et al., p.33). It is clear that firms that appear ethical enjoy a strong brand and reputation since the society considers the firm has a good entity.
Thirdly, I consider transparency as a strong ethical principle because it defines the character of a person. I always to remain honest in all the activities I engage. I believe transparency increases trust of a person and hence people should strive to provide honest opinions of anything. Transparency also ensures an entity gains respect and recognition for upholding integrity values. Therefore, it is the duty of organizations to ensure they align their operations so that external stakeholders can consider the entity as being transparent.
I also consider professionalism as an ethical principle that guides my life. This principle ensures I utilize my competency in executing any duties. Besides that, the principle ensures that I act in a manner that matches with an organization’s expectations. It also guides me in ensuring I remain consistent in focusing to achieve certain results.
