According to these two articles, Gregory Mantsios and the presentation show that the gap between the wealthiest and the poor members of the society is very huge. These two articles also show that most of the people in the western world, especially in America have got used to the Great divergence and do not wish to talk about the class bias. Both articles also consider the past situation, the current situations and predict the future in relation to social class. From these articles, it is evident that the people from the middle class have higher income that the lower class and the disparities even get bigger up the classes. According to Gregory, the wealthiest 1% of the American population holds 34% of the American wealth. The presentation also talks about the wealthiest 1% controlling the economy. From this example, it is evident that the more the nation gets richer; the people from the upper class accumulate wealth for themselves leaving people in the lower class with limited resources to struggle over them. In this regard, the nation’s poor population would always remain poor, as the rich get richer.
Additionally, from the inferences of these authors, rich people have greater opportunities than the poor population does. This could be because of the capital bias in these classes, which enables the rich to access better educational services, including paying for better schools with better resources than those attended by the children from poor families. Better still, the children from the higher class would perform better than those from the lower class perform and join better universities than their poor counterparts. Gregory also indicates that family situations have an impact on the child’s development. Poor family children receive little support from their parents but those from the middle class often receive support from their parents. In this effect, the poor children are likely to suffer development defects as their counterparts flourish.
In conclusion, these articles recognize the societal imbalances and encourage the audience to make efforts of bringing solutions to the problem. If a solution were not reached in the recent future, the class bias would even widen in most economies, especially in America. In my opinion, interest groups need to sensitize people and represent the poor in forums that strive to reduce the class biases.
I agree with you since you find the similarities in the article and the presentation. I also like the way you used the examples and the fact that you have provided a probable solution the problem in question.
