Ivanhoe Reflection Paper Prompt
Question A
The Ivanhoe Neighboring Council dealt with reduction of crime, employment, housing, agriculture business. This organization is at the center of the Kansas City. The INC initiated a grown project that was a joint effort involving residents, friends and relatives. They came together to address the problem of inadequate healthy food supply.
This project consists of three approaches namely, growing in Ivanhoe; grow in Ivanhoe certification and farmers market and network. The first part of the implementation approach supports the farmers in the urban areas and gardeners by providing relevant education through workshops, soil testing, meetings, and providing the technical assistance. In the second part, farmers who meet the set requirements are awarded the positions of the functional assistants. For instance, those pass the soil testing (Watson-Thompson, Fawcett & Schultz, 2008). Certificates’ are also awarded to the growers, and lastly, farmers who have grown produce are provided with an open space and a ready market. It gives them a chance to sell their goods and others to buy. The farm stand system enables the residents to sell their fresh produce direct from their farms.
Some of the challenges that the INC faced were increased crime. Looting was widespread, and it raised 50 %.Drugs and alcohols were sold to the minors. Ivanhoe was classified as one of the poorest and uneducated neighborhood. Ignorance was also very typical in this region.
In conclusion, the grown project has accomplished a lot between 2010 and 2012. The local food production has increased, and the growers and their supporters have established access to healthy food through collaborative means. Farmers are supplied with pesticides and farm produce at low costs. Grants are also available from the health care foundation of greater Kansas City and others.
