Professional Speech
The biggest achievement of human evolution is power of speech. We have so many languages and dialects, but still the speech is most important feature of communication. “Interviews are a fact of modern working life and the skills needed to do well at an interview will be used by us all many times throughout our life”(Corfield, 2). One of the qualities of being a successful person is the oratory skill. It’s an era of cut throat competition and the power of professional speech has become an essential aspect to get a job. As per Churchill's view, “A good speech should be like a woman’s skirt; long enough to cover the subject and short enough to create interest.”
Following same rule, according to me answer of the first question, “Tell us about you”.
Good Morning, My name is xyz. I have been working as a head of department for last 6 years. My recent job profile is to handle the Personnel department of my organization. I have completed my Master’s Degree in Personnel Management. I have worked under the training and development department as a manager. I am a very duty bounded and honest person.”
The second question, how does your experience relate to this position?
In your company, you need the training specialist. As I told you earlier that I have been the manager in training and development department. Along with Master’s in Personnel Management, I have also completed my masters in Mass Communication and English language as well. I think my knowhow will help you to train the employees in soft skills and communication skills. Sometimes observation teaches you so many things, I have observed and learnt a lot by my seniors. I implement the same in my working ideas.
The third question, “Why are you interested in a management position here?”
I found this organisation to be perfect as per my expectation. As an employee I see a growth here. This organisation may provide me a better position and remuneration, and I feel that I will be learning so many new things. The ambience is very sophisticated and enthusiastic. I expect a long collaboration with this organization.”
Conclusion
Preparation is a must; after all ‘Precaution is better than cure”. Be prepared; Sell what buyer wants to buy. Be honest and moderate. “Notice that only one of the critical areas has anything to do with your actual job skills.” (Yate, M. 122) Talk to the point and be truthful to everything you include in your speech. Personality is an internal aspect; don't try to cover it by a fake dressing sense. Do whatever it takes to be comfortable. Everyone is nervous in interview, it’s nothing new. Let the true feelings flow. Take your interview as an experience; it will provide you an ease. According to Mozart, “To talk well and eloquently is a very great art, but that an equally great one is to know the right moment to stop.”
