B) The study was done Dr. Braden Manns and his team at the University of Calgary and the study was published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
C) What will happen if donors get paid? or Should kidney donors be paid?
D) If the organ donors get paid, the number of them will increase, and expenses will decrease.
E) In my view it is a continuation of previous studies. We know that it is not the first time the researchers are talking about this issue, just this time researchers made a different attempt and it was a survey on a large scale, asking 3000 people and the results suggest that most of people agree with payment to donors. Before it was shown that people do not agree with payments to
donors but now, this survey shows that 76% of people agree with this method. F)3,000 Canadians, and transplant doctors.
G) Control group, was the donors not being paid. Experimental group, was the donors being paid.
1: Not being paid at all
2: offering incentives such as compensations for health costs, a break on life and health insurance or even tax relief for donors.
3: Being paid 10,000$ for a kidney
I) Increase in number of donors.
J) Yes there are. Moral issues, so many people consider it against morality to define prices for human organs. The other issue is the fear of abusage, when poor people might be harvested for their organs, so rich people can live healthy and longer.
K) Payments to donors will increase the number of donors and also decreases the expenses for patients.
L) A bar graph
M) Not completely, first of all the research did not study the negative effects, was just like asking people about their ideas about payments and donors. No for sure, they were not that much convinced, because no one is really sure about the society and how they react with considering ethical and moral issues.
N) I think it did infer a bias. If you pay attention to the headline, you will feel that you are facing a simple solution for a big problem. The first thing that I felt when I read the headline was like, Ow just 10,000, well even researchers approved it. I think the journalist wants this idea to be accepted, therefore has used such headline, of course I had the same feeling whole time when I was reading the article, the journalist also very seldom talked about the negative aspects of the idea which is bias.
O) In the article it’s mentioned that paying for organs is legal in Iran, but no one did any research to see how it works there. and if it works, how is it? can the same thing be done in Canada or USA?
P) Yes, I do support such a research. In my view all aspects of such a problem (donations) should be studied and financial issues are also an important aspect of today’s social health care. such researches can clarify so many issues, for example how society really thinks about payments to donors which may lead to changes in laws or even ethical believes.
