This paper reflects the analysis over the book of The Watchers: the Rise of America’s Surveillance State by Shane Harris. It will reflect over the themes of the books, different types of points about this book as well how it how helpful to the criminal justice. It also will mix certain and older media highlights to improve the points mentions in Mr. Harris books.
One of the three themes that were addressed in this book is about the fact about the surveillance that America is now under because of the government. Mr. Harris mentions the Americans citizens are not fully aware of the full power of the surveillance the government is doing. As it was mention in the beginning of the interview, Mr. Harris is a noble journalist who won many prestigious awards. Mr. Harris stated in an interview that he spent two years researching the book. According to the Barnes and Nobles website that shows an introduction about this book, http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/watchers-shane-harris/1100315297?ean=9780143118909 this book was published 2011. Another theme that Mr. Harris mentions is that he introduces the readers to how America is being watched through a noble character reference as he describes how the White House works through this noble character. The third theme that Mr. Harris states is that, and the most important is that while this program which was composed to watch for terrorism for the past twenty-five years has instead been used to spy on America citizens. Also, the Watchers are five men who were formed to make this mission happen. They are former spies. As Mr. Harris states, spies do not like being called spies.
The second point he mentions that is about how that America has been spied on by for the past twenty five years. To me that could be debated like arguing with a historians on the real causes of the start of Civil War. To me it involves liberal versus democrats. The third point he mentions that I disagree with is how this started with Regan administration. To me, it seems like he trying to put tarnish on the Regan name. One of my many questions is how convenient that it exactly happens, with the president that most have biased views. All due respect, an individual need to get both sides of the stories, as well as remember that most of the news with Regan was Liberal covered. Liberal hated Regan. When making an opinion, one need to be open minded before judging.
I am open minded. Maybe there are some open minded Liberals that do know this. All due respect with the path the current president going on, any concerning open minded (probably Republicans or soon to be) knows what going on. One can dispute the facts. Then again this is politics and that is the name of the game.
This is beneficial to any level of criminal justice, history, english or any professional for it brings lively and hot debate about the surveillance issue of America. After 911 Tragedy, we all are concern. With the recent events like the Boston Marathon, our concern is even deeper. Therefore, we Americans seek out to know what is going on and how are we being protected. This book to me will cause debate for it push the liberal versus republican button way too much. JFK one stated, “There is not a Republican way, nor a Democrat way, but the right way.” He said something to that effect. All due respect, he was a Democrat that was intelligent and knew what he was doing. All due respect, our current president, is put our country to shame. As one reporter stated, when Saturday Night Live starts mocking Obama care, it is time to listen. If it were possible; this would be a time that our country needs JKF.
This was an informative speech. It gave insights that I agree and do not agree with. Regardless, this is helpful information for any profession to learn. The increase steps we take toward safety in any level is for the better of mankind.
