Dear Mr. Ali,
I am writing to inquire whether Weingart Foundation would invite a proposal from Heal the Bay, requesting for a grant of $50,000 every year for two years for the accomplishment of the group’s 2014-2015 initiatives.
Founded in 1985, Heal the Bay is a non-profit organization that aims to protect and conserve the Southern California coastal waters and watersheds, including Santa Monica Bay. It is the group’s mission to keep these waters clean, safe, and healthy. With your interest in ensuring the well-being of Southern Californian communities, I am sure that our advocacy and our group’s project will be in alignment to your group’s objectives.
In the past, we have successfully contributed to the cessation of the dumping of untreated wastewater from the Hyperion Sewage Treatment Plant and we have also conducted various initiatives that aimed to raise public awareness on the effects of pollution on the Bay. Today, our current project concerns protecting the Bay from plastic pollution, urban and storm water runoff, as well as protecting them from climate change and over-fishing.
In this regard, the support you can extend to our organization will be of great help. The funds you will grant us will enable us to develop bigger and better programs that will in turn allow us to take more proactive actions for protecting our Southern Californian waters and for educating the public about water pollution and about how they can help keep our waters clean. In addition, we will use the funds in conducting more fund-raising projects that will ensure the financial stability of our organization, as well as the continuity of our operations.
One of our planned fund-raising projects is to hold fun runs or marathons and sports festivals along the ocean. Aside from the funds we will obtain from the participants, these sorts of events will also enable us to get event sponsors who can be another source of funding. Aside from allowing us to raise funds, such events will enable the participants, sponsors, and spectators to appreciate the beauty and cleanliness of our waters, motivating them to further support our initiatives. Moreover, these events can be used to educate the people about the importance of preserving our water and environment.
Another fund-raising project that we plan to implement is the publication of a quarterly newsletter for our organization. This newsletter will be distributed for free within Southern California and will be made available in public places such as gas stations, hospitals, municipal halls, health centers, and the like. These newsletters will provide community members with updates on the progress of our organization’s initiatives and will also provide them with information on how to better care for our environment. At the same time, these newsletters will contain advertisement space for the local businesses and this will be another source funding for the organization.
In addition, we plan to establish swim clubs that will be available for free for the children in our communities. With this initiative, we hope to obtain sponsors to swim club events, which can be a source of funding and donations from parents of the swim club members will also be accepted. However, the main goal for this initiative will be to raise awareness about the importance of our waters in our children so that they may be able to continue protecting our environment long after the organization is gone.
I invite you to come to our office so that you may see the incredible work that our staff and volunteers are doing. For any questions, please feel free to call me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Executive Director
