Stress can affect the human body in a variety of different ways: physically and psychologically/emotionally. A very common form of affect caused by stress is severe tension within the musculoskeletal system. This tension is commonly referred to as the formal reflex reaction towards the sudden onset of stress. Muscle tension is the body’s way of protecting the individual against physical pain or injury. Stress can also affect the human respiratory system while making the individual breathe harder and in many cases, having trouble breathing, hyperventilation and rapid lung breathing intervals. Stress can also cause a large contribution to the long-term problems which are faced with those of the heart and blood disease/vessels. When a person is stressed, their heart rate is increasing on an ongoing basis and therefore these high levels of blood pressure and stress hormones can take a major toll on the human body; by furthermore adding in the increase of risk for heart attacks, hypertension and strokes (Stress Effects on the Body).
Some ways, in which one can deal with stress, according to the bible, we can begin with limiting our focus of our daily concerns. Jesus often spoke about not worrying tomorrow about it, would worry for itself, as each and every day of our lives may have enough troubles of its own. It is also important to remember that the bible greatly emphasises the process of recovery, and knowledge/fore taking of this recovery. More specifically, one must understand that when things go bad in life, as they can quite often, one must remind his or herself that this is normal, however you must recover and heal in order to become a stronger being. Christ the Lord always looked to his father (God) for comfort, whenever he was deeply stressed or concerned. This is a lesson that one must look to his strength, devotion and courage as examples of our very own individual coping with stress. It also tells us that we have the power to believe in ourselves and to put our faith in the hands of our own individual god(s) and religious beings, as good faith (Dobbins, R. D., Dr.).
