The practice of advanced nursing is faced with several policy issues that should be addressed to enable nurses to carry out their responsibility as the primary givers of care within the country. Among the policy issues is the disparity of licensure and accreditation of nurses among the different States within the US (Mahadevan & Kalra, 2012). It is critical to not that the practice of advanced nursing is marred with serious discrepancies regarding licensure models for advanced nurses. It is necessary for the health sector to provide a proper and uniform framework that will help nurses to get quickly licensed and accredited for various practices within the US regardless of the state. The core issue in this regard is the lack of harmonized model of licensure that makes it difficult to exercise the practice freely in all the States. In light of the above issues, policymakers should work on frameworks that can help create uniform practicing models across all the American States (Stull, 2012). It is important for advanced nurses to be offered nonrestrictive opportunity to practice their profession within the confines of the laws but without bureaucratic licensure models that discourage a nurse from one State from practicing in another State.
It is imperative that the government and the department of human health should formulate measures for the uniform application of practice policies that will create conducive practice environment for all the advanced nurses everywhere. The issues have had adverse effects on the practice of the profession as it draws the practice boundaries despite the level of qualification (Furlong & Wilken, 2012). Removal of the practice barriers could help the professionals to practice their full education extent and potential. The growing need for highly qualified medical personnel worldwide thus makes it necessary to enhance optimal fulfillment of roles and assessing the impact that such roles have in the practice. It is important to acknowledge that the roles of advanced practice are gaining global attention, and the expansion of the roles is advanced nursing within the healthcare system is thus important for the practice. However, the requirement that varies from one state to another thus creating the unnecessary barrier for people with expert competencies in nursing. The challenges to the practice are the changing requirement with the location as even internationally, the validity of the practice depends on the country and place of accreditation (Bevan & Helderman, 2010). It is important. The county-specific requirements and the regulatory mechanisms make the difficult practice exercise. It is important to note that advanced practice nursing has components that make it universally acceptable. It is important for the practice to be governed by a unified model of practice for nurses. Another challenge coming from the above is the failed agreement on the standard of qualification that can be permissible in every part of the world.
The practice provides the holder a capacity to diagnose, make prescriptions, prescribe possible treatments, and perform testing interpretations. For this reason, there should be the common model of certification to allow the practicing nurse to exploit their potential and knowledge to the fullest. According to the Institute of Medicine, there is the need for the promotion of full strength practice to enhance the quality of the care services. The most important thing is to create the frameworks that acknowledge the importance of advanced practice nursing roles so that the value can be extracted within the fundamental clarification of roles (Tomasik, 2012). It is thus a great setback to the global practice of advanced nursing care. It is also characterized by poor role classification as well as fragmentation in the quality of education. Additionally, the differing requirements for educational qualification are another challenge to the global practice of the system. When certain factors are put into consideration, it worth to note that individual challenges also constitute the impediment to development. There are several bylaws and specific-hospital requirements for the practice to be permitted that appear too bureaucratic for the professional to exercise. The existing local regulations make it a great challenge and impediment to carrying out the practice. It is the role of the health care policy makers to ensure that local barriers are eliminated to help provide platforms for the practice. It is critical for the sector to provide clear frameworks for governing the practice as enshrined in the laws.
Stakeholders
The primary stakeholders in the advanced practice are the following;
Federal government- the federal government is a critical player in the process of policy making. It can intervene in contentious policy issues that pertain to the healthcare provision such as the health care bills. The role of the federal government is normal to create policies for the practice within the boundaries of the state. Besides the policy making the role, it also funds the nursing research programs and educational endeavors within the boundaries (Beland, 2010).
Advanced practice nurses- the nurses form the most critical aspect of the society and health care community thus faces several challenges in conducting the practice. Advanced practice nurse has the expertise but is governed by a set of laws that prohibit the practice in certain areas.
Methods of addressing the issue
There is the need to address the disparity in laws allowing the practice discriminatively within the specific sections. To address the problem, the following methods and changes should be implemented;
Change of state-specific laws on the practice and certification of the practicing nurse. In this view, it is important to effect the policy changes straight away. Changing the state laws barring the practice will create new practicing opportunities in the health industry.
Reduce the certification requirement on the practicing medics so as to help attract more visitors.
Create a uniform model for the certification and licensure process. It will eliminate the barriers to the practice and promote the full extent of the practice. It is important for the individual to have certain regulations in memory of the laws. The laws allow for more educative processes to be conducted helping promote the quality of education and medical personnel (Beland, 2010).
Benefits of the changes
It will make the practice accessible to all.
It will create completion, and every allocation is done following the provisions system. It is paramount to create the good working environment that enables the practicing nurse to exploit their potential fully.
It will enhance the quality of healthcare services due to completion and sharing of knowledge.
