People now a day’s complaint a lot about lifestyle diseases that include blood pressure related problems, heart problems, diabetes and many more. Hypertension (High Blood Pressure or HBP) is a condition signifying raised blood pressure that affects around 78 million adults in United States alone (Go et al, 2013 p.3). This cardiovascular condition takes a huge toll of life around the globe. At times, people are not even aware of them suffering from this condition. Rest other conscious cases do not necessarily have their condition under control even after regular medications. Management of HBP is not only dependent on medicines but need a regular control during daily lifestyle that incorporates diet, healthy living, exercising and being stress free. Weight reduction, lesser sodium intake in form of salt, consuming low-fat high-fiber diet, limiting the alcohol consumption with performing physical activities are several HBP management criterions (Go et al, 2013 p.14).
Many a times the patients suffering from HBP adopt several undue measures due to misconceptions regarding the disease that leads to extremity of the condition. At times, people assume the condition to prevail on their own due to observation of fatigue, nervousness or dizziness but do not care to measure the systolic and diastolic blood pressure numbers (AHA, 2014). HBP is often associated with several physiological problems like headache and nosebleeds. But, the real reason is that the HBP is not the cause behind the symptoms observed but it can be attributed to other possible medical conditions and there exists no co-relation amongst them. Observations like dizziness, nausea; facial flushing or blood spotting in eyes is generally observed in patients with hypertension but it is not the cause as these symptoms are not present in all patients (AHA, 2014). It is advisable to monitor the blood pressure readings regularly so as to avoid the extreme conditions and be safe even with the prevailing problem of HBP.
