Some of the top names in the fashion industry are turning up in mass-market retailers near us, and it seems that we do not have to be famous and rich to buy them. Recently, many high-fashion designers have been going low and following are some of the best examples.
The best example of a high-fashion designer going low was Isaac Mizrahi’s alliance with target. Even though his couture career was in decline during his partnership with Target, but he can be regarded as the pioneer of this trend. In fact, going low-rent actually prove to be beneficial for his business because he became more popular and made a successful comeback in the fashion industry after his 5-year run with Target (Speed). Another example is Vera Wang’s recent hookup with Kohl. Wang's Kohl's line actually looks like one of the couture Vera Wang lines, but the price tags are so reasonable that anyone one could afford the designer’s clothing (Fleming). Yet another example of a top fashion designer going low is of the king of jeans Ralph Lauren, more specifically his American Living lifestyle line at JCPenny, which was recently halted after a 5-year run ("mrketplace.com"). During those five years, American Living some very reasonably priced bedding, clothing, luggage and shoes.
These were perhaps not only the best but some of the more successful examples of high fashion designers going low. If top fashion designers such as these continue to go low at some point or the other, this could have a wholesome effect on middle-class wardrobes and even the middle-class individuals could afford couture clothing.
