In the past, men were seen in society as the leaders, the “bread winners”, and was the dominating gender for years. The women were only seen as nurturing and tender loving mothers and wives, therefore not having much say-so in how the household was running. However, in today’s society women are continually breaking these outdated social norms and following they choose is right in their life. Many women who are like this would be called a deviant or even a radical. Hillary Clinton, the presidential candidate for the Democratic Party, is an image for women who choose to break free of what society says they should do. She has a high chance of becoming the United States’ first female president in the history of the country. She has many supporters, both men and women, who believe that she will run the country just as well as any male president has and maybe even better.
Considering that women still do not have equal rights in many issues, it would be a stepping stone to see Hillary Clinton as president. This is one reason why there is a high probability that Hillary Clinton will win the presidential nomination. Having her in The White House will help fight sexism and discrimination that women still face in America. Even her campaign logo, the letter H with an arrow pointing forwards, shows that she plans to move America toward a progressive future. According to the 2016 National Democratic Primary poll on Huffington Post, Hillary Clinton has a huge lead over her opponent, Bernie Sanders. She is leading by 50.0%, while Sanders is at 39.9%. This shows that America believes that Hillary Clinton will be a successful and progressive president for the country. Hillary’s main brand is that she will bring change to women across America. Not only does she promise a better future for women, but for African Americans and Hispanics as well. “Among black voters, she leads 65% to 28%, and among women, she leads 60% to 33%” (Agiesta, 2016). Clinton may have lost the poll votes in New Hampshire to Bernie Sanders, but in other areas Clinton is leading strong in the polls. In many of her campaigns, she talks about the struggles that Americans have to face and how she plans to deal with the issues. During her speech in New Hampshire she stated in her speech, “"College is supposed to help people achieve their dreams. But more and more, paying for college actually pushes those dreams further and further out of reach. That is a betrayal of everything college is supposed to represent,” (Kaplan, 2015). Instead of wanting to impose taxes on the rich to support college students like Sanders wants to do, Clinton wants to offer a tuition plan that will not require students to have to take out loans to pay for college. Not only that, but she also wants to make community colleges tuition-free and make Pell Grants pay for living expenses rather than for tuition. This is a more believable plan to fix the increased cost of going to college, unlike Sanders plan to give everything away for free. By stating this, she appeals to many college students as they worry about how much debt they will have incurred by going to college as well as prospective college students. Clinton’s immigration policy attacks the ideas that the republicans have. She believes that if a person immigrates to the United States illegally, then they should have the option to apply for American citizenship while they are still here. "I want to make this a voting issue. I want people when they go to vote for Congress, for the Senate, for president, they're thinking about, will this support comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship. Right now none of the leading Republicans support that," Clinton told Univision in an August interview” (Kaplan, 2015). She supports President Obama’s executive action that deferred many immigrants of being deported back to their country. As for the economy, Clinton wants to raise the federal minimum wage from what it currently is and create more jobs for people. Many candidates propose this idea as well, but Clinton has a solid plan of how she is going to implement the change when she becomes president. Clinton stands to support many American people who are not getting the proper representation that they need. She is the voice for women, immigrants, people who work minimum wage jobs, and even supports the LGBT movement. With all these policies in hand to help the American people, Hillary Clinton will no doubt win the presidential election in November. People are predicting that the race will come down between her and Donald Trump in the end.
It is about time the United States of America has a woman in the White House as president. Many other countries have already had, and have, women leaders in their offices. It is time the United States left began its outdated social norms and join the new century where a woman can be the leader of a free country. The perfect candidate for that would be Hillary Clinton. She is fighting for equal rights for women as well as for immigrants and LGBT people. Clinton is the most logical candidate to vote for in the presidential nomination. The other candidates are either too far left or too far right. Clinton hold the balance of the two sides.
