Local community representative concerns
Though the proposed hotel is bound to bring good things and services to this island, there are concerns by the local community concerning the same.
How will the proposed hotel be beneficial to the local community at large?
Can the resort offer exclusive employment to the locals?
Shall the management and stakeholder be in constant co-operation with the local community in mobilizing resources for the betterment of the locals?
How can this be affected and what are some of the initiatives that the stakeholders of the proposed hotel, would bring to the community.
Since the island offers good attraction sites and the beauty brought about by the water front is great, destruction of the same would a loss to the community at large.
How are the management and stake holders of the proposed hotel going to ensure that the beauty of the island is maintained as it is?
Are there plans for the establishment of other manmade natural like attraction sites?
Population is bound to increase in the area due to influx of people in to the hotel. The concern here is that with the increase of population, so does the increase in crime related activities in the area. The local needs to enjoy peace and harmony as they are currently.
What measures can be put in place as hotel operator to ensure that the normal culture of the local people is not affected by your hotel?
Corporate social responsibility; is the operator willing to participate in community projects and awareness?
What are some of these projects and awareness programs that the operator has in mind to be beneficial to the community?
A proposition is made on mandatory corporate responsibility to the community in conservation of environment and promotion of tourism and business
Environmental group concerns
First person
The driving force in the island’s economy is boosted by the beautiful scenery and unique life present. The life form present including fish and other vegetation need to be protected.
First concern is noise pollution.
Will there be any clubs in the hotel?
If so, would there be loud music?
Loud music cause noise pollution that is bad for the environment. If there would be clubs and beach parties, how then would the problem of loud music be controlled?
What mechanisms can be put in place to ensure that there is no noise pollution?
Our proposal would be to have no loud clubs and maintain music sound low
Second concern is depletion of aquatic life
Has considerations by the developers and operators be done with regard to that issue?
What are some of the steps that would be taken to ensure that natural aquatic life are not adversely affected by the construction?
As environmentalist insistence is on maintaining natural habitat for life form or if not the case create a man made natural like habitat. A proposal is therefore put forward to the operator and developers to come up with an alternative habitat for natural life.
Second person
With the expected increase in population so does human activities increase. The fact that over fishing can happen cannot be ruled out. This is dangerous to natural life.
Are there any effective means that the operator can put in place together with community stakeholders and authorities to ensure that this is no done?
How will the operator contribute to conservation of the environment in the area?
What aspects are to be considered as needing immediate attention?
Wetlands protection
Most of the proposed site for construction is a wetland. Slowly wet lands are beginning to diminish due to human activities. There is need to conserve the wetlands as a form of natural conservation.
Is the hotel developer willing to relocate its development further away from the water front? If not,
There is need for creation of another wet land by the developer to replace the one being developed. This will serve to maintain ecosystem balance and maintain the natural beauty of the island.
Is the developer willing to create another wetland in another area? Can he be able to accomplish the task?
How long would it take for the task to be completed?
It is proposed that the task should take a very short time if it is to be undertaken and it should be done to reflect a naturally occurring wet land like a swamp.
Business activities
Most people in Hinchibrook Island depend on fishing for their day-to-day livelihoods Fish is one of the major delicacies enjoyed in the area. The major source of these fish is the waterfront area that the proposed hotel is to be built.
There is need to protect the business community by not destroying the source of livelihood. How can this be achieved?
Since the fish breeding grounds are bound to be destroyed by construction and huge population in waters, how will they cooperate participate in order to ensure that fishing business is not affected?
Can new artificial fishing grounds developed without increasing businesses expenses of the locals?
Will there be any initiatives for business booming in the area?
Is the resort willing to buy fish and other food and other goods from the locals?
A proposal that is put forth is to have a business partnership with the proposed hotel management or operator so that all the food needed in the hotel that can be found in the island are to be bought within the island and no others food brought from anywhere else unless otherwise agreed upon.
Is the operator willing to agree to the said proposal? Or are there any changes, if so what?
The business community is also concerned about the competition that is bound to arise. While realizing that this is necessary, there is need for the operator to agree to abide by the rules of air competition in the industry of hospitality.
Eco-tourist organizations concerns
The benefits that the proposed hotel would give to the tourist organizations are many. However, some concerns are there. The water front in which the hotel is to be developed is one of the major attraction sites in the island. The variety of aesthetic fish found here is unique.
The proposed hotel is to be developed in to a high class caliber. This is good. However, there is a concern that middle class tourist might not be able t access the amenities provided.
Are there any plans of considering the middle class group?
If so how can this be effectively implemented?
In order to have many tourists visiting the island, there is need to market and improve the services and attraction sites. Plans need to be put forth to ensure the achievement of this.
Can the operator participate in promoting tourism in the area?
What are some of the initiatives that the operator is planning to put in place for the effective promotion of tourism in the area?
Will there be any support that the hotel operator would advance to the eco tourist organization if so, in what form and how?
The eco tourist organizations propose an agreement with the hotel operator concerning activities that they both parties promise to carry out together. Some of the proposed activities would be provision of tourist friendly rates at the hotel, tourism promotion and tourist attraction sites conservation
