Mayor Yin served as the secretary of chairman Mao which advocated more individual interests rather than those of the community. It was however time when the community decided to have maxims teachings, which were in supporting of community development. In his narration of the process and his service as the secretary, Mayor Yin confessed to the narrator that all this was for the sole purpose of gaining a better position for himself. He realized that if he supported chairman Mao, then he will definitely gain some reputation for himself. He in fact expressed regrets to the narrator that he had been selfish and not concerned about the needs of the community. He resisted the Marxists principles simply because they were contrary to what he wanted to build for himself.
Considering the execution, we realize that the Protestants knew that mayor Yin was a resistance to change of which the change could only be facilitated when they got rid of him. Despite the fact tat mayor Yin realized that he could not stand the resistance, he had not committed other offences that had been charged against him. The community looked at him as a murderer and evil person who was responsible for the death of the advocates of the red revolution. This is something that the mayor could not understand or approve to his opponents who were obsessed with his death. There were varied views on how the Marxists teachings would benefit the community and the individual at the same time. There was hence a clash and dilemma on what the results would have been.
On the other hand, mayor Yin could have shouted the slogan simply out of defiance rather than loyalty. We realize from the time we encountered him, he was a bitter man who had lived dissatisfied life. He had no concern for other people and mainly lived for himself. Even after realizing how selfish his ambitions were, he was not ready to give up on the teachings and held unto them. All this was for the sole purpose of granting him a position and influence. After all that he had done, it was difficult for him to escape from execution. On the other hand, it would have also been shameful to him to admit that all along he was seeking selfish gains from the position. When the time had come for him to die, he could only show his defiance by declaring long live chairman Mao. This was the only way to prove to his opponents that even though they killed him, his spirit and souls will remain with chairman Mao. They were the same thing and not even death live alone the threats could separate them.
