1. An American who have made a difference in America and the world in the 2000s includes President Barack Obama, who has managed to change the condition of the American economy after the 2008 financial crisis, brokered Iran Nuclear deal, passed Obamacare, facilitated jobs, and brought back the confidence of investors in the American economy.
2. The positives of the reconstruction era were the reunification of the South and North, expansion of the economy, blacks started to become politically active, Freedmen's Bureau, states could not restrict the rights of citizens (Amendment 14), all men had right to vote (Amendment 15). Two mistakes that should have been avoided were industrialization of the South was slower than expected, that made it tough for uniting their economy with Industrialized North and Blackcodes were passed to restrict the freedman.
3. Union had superior resources and South was out-supplied and outnumbered. The Union was successful in blockading Southern ports and economy. The ability of the Union to fight on several fronts at the same time helped them to overpower the Confederacy over a period time. The most critical battles of the Civil War that helped to ensure Union’s victory were Gettysburg and Chancellorsville campaigns where Confederacy lost huge numbers. From the Union, Ulysses S. Grant was the military leader, whereas South had Robert E. Lee as the military leader.
4. The Civil War was unavoidable as the Northern abolitionist movement was gaining momentum and Southern economy did want to lose their slaves. Also, equal distribution of new states won in the Mexican War was expected, but the Northern states wanted to restrict slavery in new states. South also did not support the election of Abraham Lincoln as the President as he did not win the popular vote. North could have accepted the introduction of slavery in new states and the South could have accepted accepted the abolitionist movement to ensure Civil War was avoided.
5. The United States of America has maintained the manifest destiny as they fought with the Soviets to ensure American Capitalism spread all over the world. Even today, America maintains its manifest destiny by spreading democracy throughout the world.
