Both artworks under analysis in this essay are from the same artist, Patte Corcoran and are oil on canvas. These are an example of landscape art, which means depicting art of landscapes and displaying the natural elements around us such as trees, forests, mountains, etc. In both artworks, we find an arrangement of the natural elements to make a coherent composition. The sky is a common element in both arts, and the landscapes carry other details. However, in one painting, the sky covers a much larger area and give a sense of vast freedom. It seems the main focus of the artist has been on the blue sky and the clouds and only after looking at them; one gets drawn to the distant house and trees painted in the artwork. In the other artwork, the focus is on the nature, but there is no feeling of openness here as one‘s view gets restricted by the trees and the rocks behind. There is a sense of the complex and complicated side of nature; that is just opposite to the side of nature that one sees in the first artwork.
The colors used by the artist are close to nature, and he has made a realistic picture in both artworks, using true to life colors. The lines used are sharp, and the objects of the paintings are in the right proportions. However, the color palette is brighter in the one depicting forests. The brush strokes are smooth, and one feels calm and close to nature when looking at both the artworks. The intention of the artist is to draw our attention towards the nature that surrounds us, its shapes and colors. While one artwork depicts an openness and brightness of nature, with no secrets, the other displays the secretive side of nature where one has to delve in to explore and see what lies ahead. Both the paintings are successful in projecting atmosphere and the time of day. The paintings are sure to appeal to nature lovers and those who love the different elements of nature.
