George Washington and the Polite Gentleman
Colonization started to take its course as from 1680 to 1750. The main form of immigration was internal-external mainly rising from Germany, Switzerland, Ireland and Africa. The states grew very fast with Pennsylvania being the best. In British America areas, the society was divided according to their main job characteristics. They included the farming society of the north, the planters of the south and the urban society of the seaboard commercial towns. In addition, some societies opted to base their love on material things.
The themes portrayed include the theme of population. The immigration process described clearly portrays this theme. The theme of division is also portrayed on the same. The societies are divided according to their main characteristics. In addition to this, the theme of cultural heritage is also portrayed in the context. Moreover, the theme of lust comes out as the society is craving for material possession. The theme of colonization can also be seen in the context as nations were trying to take over America.
Washington document has greatly enhanced the understanding and evaluation of history of early societies in the US. In this view, the history of colonization is clearly outlined. In addition to this, the main occupation that existed within the people was also evaluated and hence the puzzle that exited in my mind has been confirmed with this deep descriptive history of the same.
The themes portrayed in this outstanding document openly explain how our societies have evolved over time in agricultural, economic and political life. In this perspective, it is therefore a document to be given a close range observation in enhancing the deep understanding of the societies existing in the US and the world beyond.
On Profit: From John Winthrop's Journal
In the world of business, human beings are driven by the desire to gain profits from any venture. However, the courts consider profit to be as a result of human oppression. It hampers individuals’ rights to freely trade in the economic markets. It however holds onto a false principle that one can sell as dear as they want or buy as cheap as they want. It additionally indicates a few false principles that misguided the society.
The article closely relates to the theme of Population and New Immigration in America and the values of just price, rising commercial classes, consumer revolution, politeness and the great awakening that came with the growth of population and emergence of cities. It shows the basic drivers of the themes and why they were perceived to be of great importance for harmony in the society. Consumers’ rights and business ethics are being openly questioned.
The article clearly indicates that the challenges and ethical issues that are currently facing the world of business started way back in 1680s. Consumers and business people are in a constant state of conflict over who should decide certain aspects in the economic markets. However, it is pathetic that the conflict ids never fully solved and continues to strain human relationships.
Population growth led to the growth of cities and the cities were associated with massive exploitation from a few wealthy individuals. This made life very intolerable for the poor residents of such cities whose existence was left at the mercy of wealthy merchants.
John Locke: the true original, extent and end of civil Government
John Locke argues that humanity strive for liberty. In the state of nature, human beings do not want to part with their liberty. They strive to obtain liberty for the chief reason of protecting their property. In the state of nature, the rights of human beings are determined according to the state laws that govern such rights and this rights are subject to the interpretation of the particular judicial system prevailing. In the society, men give up equality for the purpose of the societal well-being.
The article reflects how the American enlightenment came to be and constantly keeps on changing according to the overriding ideologies. God gave humanity the right and freedom to choice. At infancy, the human mind is a tabula rasa and what ids fed to the mind during the early stages of development impact on their future life. The freedom given to human beings by god is at times misused by state authorities for the mere benefit of themselves and their associates at the expense of the majority.
I concur with Locke that humanity are guided by their own selfish interests and much of the human rights that we know today were formulated with a main ideology of protecting the property, privileges and interests of a state or a few individuals. I however understood that the society has undergone a great transformation and that our contemporary society is quite different from that of the 18th century during Locke’s time.
During the American enlightenment, human mind was believed to be expandable by feeding more knowledge and doing away with ignorance and superstition. This was meant to make them aware of their environment and able to protect themselves from any manipulation.
Benjamin Franklin
The article is based on history and false history and how both shape our cultural tradition and laws. The article illustrates its opinion by concentrating on a single event at the Constitutional Convention of the year 1787. This was a failed proposal by Benjamin Franklin who thought that is right to change opinion on important subjects. The country will not obtain other convention that will be able to make a better constitution this is because men in convention tend to have the advantage of their joint wisdom.
Social conservative was the main theme that Benjamin wanted to preserve because he considered the error that was in the constitution and discovered that was not appropriate to the public. In my opinion Benjamin Franklin stand was appropriate because he could not allow approve the constitution that could later that could cause great impact in the country. This proves his care of the public.
He had lived long and therefore he had experience in many instance but this was beyond his reasoning. As student we should not ever get into contract/agreements without comprehending the content this because we can restrict our self in many issues. By concluding his stand that he said from him there would be no approval because in constitution he expected no better and his opinion was just error that is in constitution which he can sacrifice to the public.
The legacy of the theme remains because the conservation and disapproval of constitution in the year1787 was successful led by Benjamin and he was able to serve the public from the constitution that he believe did had errors that was not appropriate to be faced by humanity.
Kentucky Resolution
Commonwealth representatives convened in the general assembly to discuss about the resolutions passed in the last convention. Most of the representatives did not have faith in the laws formulated and this made them to remain silent instead of contribution to the doctrines and principles agreed. The resolution in the meeting was that every member state was granted a free will to accept being part of commonwealth so that liberty and happiness could not be interfered.
The main theme in the story is resolution. Due to the existing discomfort between the commonwealth members due to the alien and sedation laws, the meeting convened so that a resolution to solve the situation could be worked out. The central government was allowed to exercise its own power and an agreement was reached that the way of governance was not subject to interference. The alien and sedation laws were withdrawn because of the friction it imposed.
The article helped me to understand how resolutions were met in the Kentucky resolution. In my opinion, it helps individuals to learn more about history and understand well the procedure that led to the Kentucky resolutions. The article helped me to understand the process of negotiation and how it leads to an agreement. I also observed that it covered an in-depth analysis of the Kentucky resolution and its ideas developed in an orderly manner.
During the Kentucky resolution, the theme of resolution was very powerful since it was applied in circumstances that hade conflicts. When two parties treated each other in contempt, they were supposed to chat the way forward and solve the differences that exist between them. Resolutions developed were the only thing that was helpful to people in decision making.
